1.Personal children’s book challenge: In a VERY surprising move, the executives of the Fryzel Publishing Company have decided that all of you should create a children’s book!  They would like EACH of you to create a book that is no longer than 21 pages, has illustrations, uses dialogue and quotation marks, and is created using Google Slides.  Good luck!  As president of the company, I am pleased with your work, but I don’t get my HUGE bonus until one of gets published!  So, write, write, write!

Individually students completed 3 reflection questions about their speeches, based on the feedback and other speeches that they heard.

JOURNAL:  Quotation Marks – – Write 8 sentences using quotation marks in the 4 different ways (2 sentences per each option).

JOURNAL: Halloween – – Every year as Halloween rolls around, the debate of which candy is the best begins.  Look at the following pairs and explain which one is better from each pairing and WHY.

In class today, students cleaned up their speeches and we discussed procedures for the speeches. Speeches will start tomorrow with the 4 groups that volunteered to go first.

Today students finished their speeches, received critical feedback from at least one other group/person (many groups were able to receive multiple feedback from different groups/people), and practiced their timing.

JOURNAL:  Grouch – – Today is “National Grouch Day.” If someone around you is being a grouch, what are some ways that you could cheer them up and help them be in a better mood?

Students continued to work on their team speeches today. Tomorrow will be the last day of class that they can work on these. We will start presenting on Wednesday.

JOURNAL:  Dessert – – Today is National Dessert Day.  Explain in DETAIL your favorite dessert and why you like it so much.  Be specific.  I want to see it and taste it in my mind 🙂

We continued with story board pitches today. The questions that students were asking were phenomenal – deep and thought provoking!

JOURNAL:  College Essay – – What is your theme song?   – University of Southern California

  1. Capstone project was explained. Directions and requirements were glued into “Mr. Tabby”. They are also posted, along with the rubric, in Google Classroom. FIRST book check in is November 25/26. Two books need to be read by then.
  2. We used the rest of the time to work on their speeches.

HOMEWORK: Make sure that you start reading for the capstone project.

6th Grade – 3rd hour ONLY
