Summer Learning

Over the summer CURRENT 6th and 7th graders will have two (2) math and two (2) ELA IXLs to complete each week.

We will post the links for the week’s IXLs every Monday STARTING Monday, June 22nd and ENDING Monday, August 17th.  The percent you need to complete them to will be posted with each IXL.

If you are on vacation and can’t do them that week, no problem!  They need to be completed by the first day of school Monday, August 31st (that is the first day as of right now).

ALSO, current 6th and 7th graders need to read 3 books at or above their reading level.  Please be sure to record the title and author for each book.  There will be an assignment when we return for the books.

Have a great summer!

8th Grade Promotion Speech

We will be having a virtual promotion ceremony for the 8th grade in order to recognize you for all of your hard work and accomplishments (MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW). During this virtual ceremony, one 8th grade student will give a speech that captures the experiences you have had here at STEM for the past three years and also looks ahead to your future. If you would like to be considered as the 8th grade speech presenter, please read the following criteria:

  1. The speech can be no longer than 3 minutes.
  2. It should reflect on your middle school years and the time you spent at STEM.
  3. The topic/theme should be something that all the 8th graders can relate to and not just be relatable to you as an individual.
  4. You should talk about the future and give some advice or encouragement.
  5. Be sure to thank parents and teachers.
  6. A VIDEO of you delivering the speech must be shared with Ms. Fryzel through Google Classroom (an assignment has been posted) no later than 9:00 AM Monday, June 1st.
  7. Your video must be a FINAL version; like you are delivering it that day: no background noises, a nice background, you are dressed formally, and the speech is fluent.

Mid-Week Up Date :)

Hi everyone! I hope the Wednesday hump day finds you well. We are supposed to have some snow showers Friday! I am telling you, the year 2020 needs to be returned!

8th Grade

Thank you everyone for turning your essays in on time. For the less than 5 of you that I am waiting for … tick, tock. I have left some comments not only your paper, but in the return comments. PLEASE take a minute to read them. They will be helpful for your capstone essays.

We have class DISCUSSION on Friday at 2:00 and 2:45. Do not join as “audio only”. This only works if we discuss. Please come to class with Chapter 1 read.

6th Grade

Thank you for those that came to office hours this week. We had a really good discussion on the Police Investigation Slides that are due next Wednesday. Some information:

  1. Read the rubric so you know exactly how many traits and ideas that you need for each character.
  2. You are free to use anything from chapters 1-16, but nothing after that.
  3. When joining the discussion this week on Thursday (11:00 and 11:45), do NOT ruin the book for others.
  4. If you have questions on the slideshow, don’t wait until Tuesday night to email me 🙂
