Legoland Field Trip Tomorrow!

Don’t forget our field trip is tomorrow, Wednesday, December 7!

Please make sure that your child brings a bag lunch tomorrow along with a drink. Please no pop. We don’t want any unfortunate pop explosions.  Please make sure your child’s lunch is well-balanced, such as a sandwich, a piece of fruit or veggies, maybe something crunchy like chips, and one small sweet treat for dessert. We all need something special in our lunch!  And don’t forget napkins or any plastic utensils your child might need like spoons. Please pack everything in disposable bags.

Please be on time for school. We will be leaving as close to 9:00 as possible!

See you then! Can’t wait!

Legoland Volunteers

WOW! Thank you for the fantastic response. Unfortunately, some of the parents who volunteered did not have the District required Parent Affidavit completed and on file. This is a requirement for all parent volunteers who want to chaperone or work in the classroom. It takes about 2 weeks to process, but once approved the affidavit is good for 3 years. Please see Ms. Debbie or Ms. Fatima in the office if you have any questions.

According to Legoland requirements, I am only allowed 3 additional adults besides myself. The following parents will be our chaperones for this trip:

  • Mrs. Cherine Hassoun
  • Mrs. Ghada Farhat
  • Mrs. Mona Hojeije

Thank you to all the parent volunteers!

Our next field trip will be to the Dearborn Historical Museum May 12, 2017. We will need chaperones for that trip, so mark your calendars and get your Parent Affidavits submitted!

What Time Is It Mr. Fox?

This week we have been working hard telling time on analog clocks (yes, I know, clocks with hands!). We are practicing reading and drawing the hands on a clock to the nearest 5 minutes. Here are some photos of us playing Scoot! Students had to rotate to different stations and answer questions posted around the cafeteria every time I yelled “SCOOT!”img_3659 img_3658 img_3657 img_3655 img_3654 img_3653 img_3652

Legoland! Here we come!

We will be having a field trip to Legoland on December 7, 2016. We will be leaving River Oaks at 9:15 and travelling by school bus. Students and chaperones need to pack a bag lunch including a drink. Please do not send lunch boxes or containers, everything should be disposable so that students do not need to carry any extra belongings. There will not be food available to purchase. We will return to River Oaks at approximately 3:00. Permission slips were sent home yesterday. Legoland requires us to have a head count and all fees paid 2 weeks prior to the trip. All slips and money must be turned in NO LATER than Monday, November 21.  The cost is $5 per student. Chaperones are free. We will need chaperones for this trip, however there is a limited number of spots available. Please be aware that you might not be with your child’s group the entire time due to how Legoland organizes the event. Chaperones are required to ride the school bus with us to Legoland. No other children are allowed to attend.

The students are very excited. Not only will we be learning about science and social studies, but we get to use Legos to solve problems!

Conferences are Coming Up!

Last Friday, November 4, Parent -Teacher Conference invitations were sent home (on goldenrod paper). Please RSVP by completing the bottom slip and returning it to school with your child. If the time on the invitation does not work, please let me know as soon as possible because there are a limited number of spaces available for rescheduling, especially if you are in need of a translator. So far, I have only heard back from 10/20 families. Please let me know immediately if you did not receive an invitation so that I can send one home on Wednesday. The first day of conferences is this Thursday, November 10. Conferences are also held next Wednesday, November 16, and Thursday, November 17. Please look carefully at your invitation and mark your calendars accordingly. Students are welcome at the conferences but not required to attend.

We have a wonderful class with lots of great personalities. I look forward to discussing your child’s academic progress and behavior and addressing any questions or concerns that you have regarding your child.

Wayne County Regional Enhancement Education Millage Proposal

School districts in Wayne County have placed a proposal on the November 8th ballot to provide added funding for our schools. It is the “Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal.”

If approved by the entire county, the 2 mil proposal will generate approximately $6.2 million from Dearborn but the District will receive $7.8 million in additional funding for our schools.  Money would go to local schools starting this year and the millage expires after six years.  Read More

Halloween Party… the Details!

We will be having a Halloween Party on Monday 10/31 at 1:30 followed by the River Oaks’ Halloween Parade at 2:30. All parents and family are welcome to attend our parade and cheer us on! Parents are welcome at our party beforehand, too, but with limited space younger siblings and strollers are discouraged at the party. If you would like to help with the party either by volunteering or sending in supplies, that would be WONDERFUL! Please Click on the link below to sign up to help.

Our party schedule is as follows:

Starting at 1:30, groups of 4 students will be rotating through 5 stations : Cookie decorating, Skeleton building, Snacks, Halloween Bump (math game), and Changing into Costumes. Each rotation will be 10-12 minutes long so that we finish in time for the Parade. After the Parade, our class has Media to attend until 3:15. Afterwhich, we will be getting ready to go home. Students will wear their costume home.

Costume Guidelines

  • Students will be changing into them before the parade. Please send their costume in a bag.
  • Students need to be able to put them on by themselves.
  • No weapons of any kind.
  • No blood or gore.
  • Costume needs to be school appropriate.
  • Masks are not to be worn due to safety.
  • No full faced makeup. It is very itchy and often is worn off by the time of the party.

I am looking forward to seeing all the great costumes. Be sure to check out our bulletin board about what costume the students suggested I should wear! I hope my costume lives up to their expectations!

Please email me if you have any further questions at fowlerj@dearbornschools.org.

Social Studies Test 10.26

There is a Social Studies test tomorrow on Unit 1: What is a Community? A practice test and vocabulary flip book was sent home to study. It will be a multiple choice test, and I read aloud the questions, so the students need to understand the terms and be able to pick out an example. They do not need to be able to spell the words. Most students seem to understand and know the concepts. I am expecting great results tomorrow.

Happy studying!
