Spelling Words for Week of 10/16

This week we will be studying words with beginning blends. A blend is two consonants next to each other and you hear the sounds from both consonants such as st– in stop. We will be studying 4 blends this week: st-, sk-, sp-, and sl-.

Blend words

  • spin
  • slip
  • skid
  • stone
  • stand
  • stem

Sight Words

  • sleep
  • first
  • what
  • who

Remember there will be 5 additional words on the test that follow the pattern.

Reminders

Just a few reminders…

  • We have last lunch, so please make sure that your child has a healthy snack. The school will not provide snack for students.
  • Parents, please look at and SIGN your child’s planner EVERY night. Students earn stamps every morning for signed planners. It is a vital piece of communication between home and school. Your child’s behavior and homework are listed in it daily.
  • We do NOT have air conditioning in the K-2 classrooms. It gets very warm even with two very nice fans. Please remember to dress your child in temperature appropriate clothing for our classroom ( at least until this crazy hot weather stops!).
  • Students are bringing home books every night. They should be reading at least 15-20 minutes.

Thanks! Have a great weekend!

Spelling Words for 9/25-9/29

Here are this week’s spelling words. We are working on the CVC and CVCe pattern with the vowel i.

CVC= Consonant-Vowel-Consonant= short i sound as in pig or igloo

CVCe= Consonant-Vowel- Consonant- magic e= long i sound as in ice

The following words will be on the test, as well as, 5 unpracticed words that fit the same pattern. This is to see if students are able to apply the pattern to new, yet familiar words. This ensures that students are not just memorizing words, but are listening to the sounds and using the spelling pattern to figure out words.

Welcome Rockets!

Welcome to a new school year! I am so excited to be working with you this year! We are going to be learning a LOT!

The last week, we have been working hard learning new procedures and expectations in our room. We are learning to be INDEPENDENT. That means we are being responsible for ourselves and making good choices so that everyone can learn. We are also learning to keep trying even when we make mistakes or things seem difficult. Mistakes are proof that you’re trying and learning. No one is perfect and we learn from our mistakes.

Open House is tomorrow night from 6-7:30pm. Bring the family and come explore your child’s classroom. They have lots to show you! The Book Fair will also be open during that time if you want to shop for some Good Fit Books.

Something NEW this year, is that we will be having a Sign Up for November Parent/Teacher Conferences for all grades in one location, so that you can schedule conferences for the time that works best for you. You will be asked to put Your Child’s Name, Your Name (Parent/Guardian), and mark if you need a Translator. Please be aware that translation must be done by a school employee at Conferences. Please let us know if you’ll need assistance so that we will have a translator available for you.

I hope you can make it! I look forward to seeing or meeting everyone!
