Math Home Connection

Dear Families,

As a second grade team we would like to inform you about our math curriculum. We have been chosen by the Dearborn Public Schools Math Committee to pilot the Bridges Mathematics program until December. This program includes a work journal called Home Connections. This journal has activities and games that correlate with the lessons that we are working on in class. Tomorrow your child will be coming home with their Home Connections book. These can stay home and do not need to be returned. They are an extra resource that you can work on with your student at home. Our second grade team will let you know when there is a worksheet or game in the book that is an extension of our lesson. These should not be returned as we do not grade students on their homework. Their grades are a reflection of the assignments and assessments done in class. If you have any questions, please contact your student’s teacher directly.

Thank you for your continued support,

Your second grade team-

Ms. Al-Zaharnah, Mrs. Fowler, Ms. Marano

Spelling Words for the Week of 10/23

This week we are working on vowel teams. Vowel teams are two vowels that work together to make one sound. The name of the first letter of the team (“the captain”) is the sound the team makes (usually- there are always exceptions in English). The teams we are working on are the “ai” and “ay” teams. They both say the long a sound as in ape. So now students need to not only hear which vowel sound but also recognize which one “looks” right.  Making word families can help build word recognition.

Here are this week’s words:

  • main
  • sail
  • jay
  • stay
  • may
  • paint
  • clay
  • trait

sight words

  • why
  • when
