Eureka Math Pilot

Dear Families,

As a second grade team we would like to keep you updated on our math. We have been chosen to pilot two different math programs this year, as you may know. We completed our pilot of the Bridges Mathematics program and will start our new pilot of the Eureka Math Program on January 22, 2018.  This will come with a few changes, including but not limited to:

  • Home Connections will no longer be used. Students will be bringing home a homework worksheet each night and will be expected to return it, completed, the next day.
  • Homework sheets will include Must Do’s, Can Do’s, and Extension questions.
  • Student assessments and tests will look different.
  • We will be sending home the Bridges workbooks. Please use them as you would like. They would be a great enrichment tool for you at home during breaks and on rainy days.

If you have any questions, please contact me directly by email at fowlerj@dearbornschools.org.

Thank you for your continued support,

Your second grade team-

Ms. Al-Zaharnah, Mrs. Fowler, Ms. Marano

As part of the overall plan to review the enrollment increases at Dearborn’s three comprehensive high schools the District will hold a meeting to provide information and solicit feedback regarding proposed high school boundary changes. The forum is open to all member of the River Oaks community. Parents, students, staff and all community members are invited to attend.

For more information a special “Boundary Blog” as been created and can be found at

Please attend this important meeting, it could affect where your child will go to high school

Field Trip Reminders

Tomorrow is our field trip. We are SO excited! Please remind your student that this is a school trip and that all school rules apply. Be your River Oaks best!

Students and chaperones will need to bring a lunch including a drink (water, juice box, capri sun). Please put your child’s lunch in a bag and label it with his or her name. Chaperones will have a large tote/shopping bag to put lunches into by group. Please remember to pack napkins and any plastic utensils  your child might need. Please no soft drinks or pop. The bus ride is bumpy and we would like to avoid any accidental pop explosions.

Students will be participating in an educational workshop and then will have some exploratory time with the different Lego stations. We will not be going to the Lego store.

Please do NOT send money or cameras with students. They will not need them.

Thank you to Mrs. Bazzi, Fatima’s mom, and Ms. Salame, Samira’s mom, for completing the required Parent Affidavit/background check and taking time out of their day to accompany us on this trip. I had many volunteers to chaperone; unfortunately unless the background check is completed, you are not able to chaperone according to Dearborn Public Schools policy. We will be having several other field trips this year, and if you would like to chaperone, please visit the River Oaks office and start the Parent Affidavit process.

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow! (Don’t be late!)
