Reading

We continue to work on recounting stories especially folktales and fairy tales using the story elements and sequence words

characters, setting, problem, plot, beginning, middle, end, first, nest, then, after that, finally

Spelling

2nd Grade: We are working on long and short /u/ with the CVC and CVCe patterns. Our words are: nut, rude, bump, fume, cube, use, much, full, upon, cut.

3rd Grade: We are working on blends this week. Blends are two or more consonants in a row and you hear each sound. Our words are: black, slip, stop, drink, flat, theme, intervals, plot, friction, pollution

Math

2nd Grade: We have been learning about measuring and estimating to the nearest centimeter and inch. We will also be practicing a variety of strategies to add and subtract units of length. We will have a test on Thursday.

3rd grade: We are beginning a new module in which we will learn how to use both analog and digital clocks and use number lines and skip counting to help figure elapsed time or duration of activities. We will also be learning about weight and capacity measurements and relating the units to place value.

Writing

Both 2nd and 3rd grade are working on using the writing process to create a fictional narrative piece about our stuffed animal superheroes. We will be using science to defeat Super villains.

We are working on using our senses to add details and interesting words to our writing to make it come alive. We are also working on using transitional words so our story flows sequentially.

Science

2nd grade is learning about properties of matter such as hardness, absorbency, flexibility, and texture. We will also be learning about the states of matter.

3rd grade is focusing on forces. Forces are pushes and pulls. We will be discovering how engineers use their understanding of forces to build bridges. We will also be experimenting with friction by making a model slide to test different materials.

Social Studies

2nd Grade is learning about communities, types of communities, and why people live in communities.

3rd Grade is studying the geography of Michigan. We are learning about the regions of Michigan and the natural and human characteristics that make up Michigan.
