The winner’s of our classroom spelling bee have been determined! I want to congratulate all of the students. They took it seriously and gave 100% effort. It is very nerve-wracking to have to stand in front of everyone and spell out loud. Even very good spellers make mistakes when they get nervous.
I am proud of how everyone handled winning and losing graciously. Learning to win and lose is a life skill that we deal with almost everyday as adults. I have emphasized that in a contest there are only a few winners. More people lose than win in a contest. The most important thing is that they were prepared and that they did their personal best. Each contest or competition is different. The winners could be the losers, and the losers could be the winners. Please validate your child that even if they didn’t win, that they are still loved and worthy and “good.” Ask them what they could do different next time that might help them do better. If your child did win this round, praise them for their work and effort, but also prepare them for the fact that they might not win. Each level of competition is tougher than the last.
The winners of Mrs. Fowler’s Classroom Bee are:
- Fatima Chami
- Sirine Elachi
- Azael Izaguirre-Cruz
- Luke Mado
- Samira Salame
Congratulations!
