Good afternoon, all:

Yes, I’ve read the article unofficially heralding the news that we won’t be returning to school. No, I don’t know anything beyond that. The keyword here is unofficial. Until Governor Whitmer signs it into effect and announces it, let’s continue with business as usual, shall we?

Today is Tuesday, so that means another creative or reflective journal prompt to respond to on Google Classroom. Feel free to pick any of the prompts that you’d like as long as it is a different one from the prompt you responded to last time.

Hopefully I’ll have more news for you around Thursday regarding what our path looks like moving forward.

I hope you are all participating in digital spirit week! If not, you should follow DHS on Instagram. Yesterday was “Take a Picture With Your Pet” day, and I tried to get my parents to video call me with my dog, but it didn’t work out. I miss him so much. Anyway, today is the day to take a picture of/with something that you’ve created during this time. So, if you’ve created anything other than a pile of empty Doritos bags and Mountain Dew cans — though I suppose that could be considered an abstract art piece if you’re really pushing it — you should definitely post it!

Tomorrow is the day you’re supposed to take a picture of what you’re reading…I’ve read 4 books so far in this time…I’d love to see what you’ve been reading 🙂

Here are the other spirit days:

Monday March 30th, 2020

Good afternoon everyone,

Today is Monday, so that means it’s time to review some sentence structure! You’ll find the review posted on Google Classroom. I’ve been getting questions about the “score” that pops up when you complete it — that doesn’t matter. Google Forms isn’t sophisticated enough to automatically grade the sentences you write!

I’ve also been getting some people claiming that they can’t log in with their school Google account on Newsela — I believe you have to go to “create account” and then click the button that says “sign in with Google” if you haven’t tried that already. You can’t just automatically type in your info and expect it to work.

I will update the FAQ with this information.

There is still no news as to what is going to happen after spring break — which is next week — as far as how schooling will work. Governor Whitmer made a comment in her press conference today that she will likely provide an update to that situation sometime this week. As soon as I know something, I will let you know.

Hang in there, guys. I’m going to go through your writing and provide some feedback over the next few days, so be on the look out for that.

Love you all. Stay safe, stay healthy, and make sure to reach out if you have questions or just want to check in!

Thursday March 26, 2020

Good morning, all!

We’re almost two weeks into this social distancing thing, so I hope you are all doing okay.

All I’m asking you guys to do today is write a response on Google Classroom to the article from yesterday while using beginning participial and appositive phrases. Just tell me what your thoughts on the article are.

Also, Mrs. A and I are holding office hours on Google Meet at noon! We’ll post information on how to join in on that on Google Classroom around then, so feel free to check in! We’d love to see you and answer any questions you have, or even just to hear about what you’ve been up to these past few weeks!

Also, I’m updating the FAQ today with questions that I got about using Newsela, so hopefully that will help when we do new articles in the future.

I did a ton of writing yesterday. For fun. Yes, I know. But it really is a great, productive way to spend the time. Even if it’s just journaling what you do each day — you might find that you’re glad to have that record once all of this is over. This is an unprecedented, historic situation to be sure.

Stay happy and healthy! 🙂

Wednesday March 25, 2020

Happy Wednesday!

Today, you’ve been assigned an article on newsela.com that you need to read, highlight and solve roadblocks, and then answer quiz questions. This should be done before tomorrow, as tomorrow’s writing will be related to this article.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

P.S. Fun fact, I had “Tuesday” written on everything until just a few seconds ago…when I realized that it is not, in fact, Tuesday…it’s easy to lose track of your days during all this!

Stay hopeful and healthy!

Tuesday March 24, 2020

Good morning, all:

I posted a journaling assignment on Google Classroom. Take a look at the attached list of prompts and pick ONE to respond to. It doesn’t matter which one you pick, but you will have to pick a different one each week. I am not going to give you a specific length requirement to adhere to either — write as much as you need to in order to completely address the prompt.

I’m going to start going back through and giving feedback on your role sheets from last week for those of you that turned them in, so expect to see that in the next few days.

I hope you guys are finding a way to stay active. I’ve been doing yoga every day. On YouTube, there’s a channel called Yoga with Adrienne, and that has been a nice way to stay active despite staying indoors for the most part (also I’m obsessed with her dog Benji. So cute.)

Take care!
