New School Year 20/21!

Good Evening!

How exciting!  The first week of school starts tomorrow.  I am really looking forward to this school year and hope you and your child are as well! This week will be a little different as it is a soft start.  This means that we will be seeing students in the morning and we will only see them once this week.  In order to be safe we have scheduled times to meet each student and give them supplies and books.  Please be on time, wear a mask, and practice social distancing.  I will be on the small playground with a poster with my name on it (it’s a yellow sign).

I have been in contact with all parents via email or phone and you should know your scheduled time to meet this week.  It is also listed on the blog post below.

We need to start taking attendance this week so each day there is one assignment.  I will count your child as present when they email me their completed work for that day.

Assignments for this week

Monday – Write about your favorite thing you did this summer and then draw a picture to go with it.  Email me a picture of your writing and picture.

Tuesday – Write about what you are most looking forward to this year, draw a picture to go with it. email me a picture of your writing and picture.

Wednesday – write about your favorite book you read this summer and draw a picture of it.  Email me a picture of your writing and picture.

Thursday-  We have a long weekend!   Draw a picture and write about what you would like to do over the weekend.  Use your imagination.  Email me a picture of your writing and picture.

Each one of these needs to be completed in the day listed. This is how I’m taking attendance this week.  Once I receive your email on the specific day I will mark your child as present.

Thank you and stay safe!

Peggy Earle

The New School Year…

Dear Families,

I have emailed all families of students who are currently on my class list for the upcoming school year. Thank you to those of you who have responded, I appreciate it very much. I emailed based on my current class list. There is always a chance that it may change based on staffing changes that are currently taking place. I hope it does not change but there is always a chance. I look forward to seeing students starting on Monday. I hope everyone enjoys the weekend. Stay safe.

Peggy Earle

Also, thank you for subscribing to this blog. This will be the main communication tool until we get schoology up and running.

Welcome to a New School Year! 20/21 Here we come…

Hello Oakman Families!

Welcome to 2nd grade! My name is Peggy Earle and I will be your child’s teacher this year.

Although this year will look different than years past, the whole Oakman team and myself are committed to working together to make sure that your child has a positive educational experience. We will accomplish this through the use of strong curriculum, relationship building and consistent communication. Please know that I am here to support your child in any way I can to help make this a successful and fun year! We are a team, and we can do this together!

Please read through the following information thoroughly to ensure a smooth start to the school year.

  • The first week of school: August 31st – September 3rd 8:55am to 12:00pm.
    • The primary goals this week are

1) To get to know each student.

2) Teach students and parents the new technology tools.

3) Explain student and parent expectations.

4) Material pickup from school (books, chromes, supplies/supply lists)

  • Attendance: Student attendance is mandatory and counted at all live sessions. If your child is ill or otherwise unable to attend a live session, please email the teacher as soon as possible so that they may be excused. If the teacher is not informed it will be an unexcused absence. Live sessions are an important part of your child’s learning and cannot be made up at a later time.
  • Grading: Students will be graded using the Dearborn grading scale (1-4). Students will be expected to complete work on time and to the best of their ability. Please contact your child’s teacher right away if you are having trouble completing assignments or experiencing technical difficulties so that the Oakman team may be of assistance.

I am very excited about this school year.  I hope that you and your child are also looking forward to this school year.  I assure you, I will take very good care of your child while he/she is in my class.  This will be a different start to the new school year and we will need to be patient with each other as we all learn new technology!  I have taught grades 1st – 4th and am really looking forward to teaching 2nd grade this year.

Please know that I will respect and care for your child while he/she is here with me or online!  If you have any questions please email me at earlem@dearbornschools.org.

Good morning!

This school year we will no longer be allowed to use Class DoJo per the district. The district is moving to a platform called Schoology. We will have more information for parents in a week or two. Until then I highly encourage you to sign up for the Oakman blog as well as look at the teacher blogs at Oakman school for all updates.

https://oakman.dearbornschools.org/

Thank you for your patience as we (teachers, parents, and students) learn this new Schoology platform.

Thank you,
Peggy Earle

Fall is just around the corner!

Good morning! I hope this note finds you well. Here is a note from Mr. AbuRus regarding our school start in the fall.

Dear Oakman Parents,
Based on the approved return plan from the board of education last night, registration for the Virtual Learning Program ( VLP) will take place tomorrow at Oakman school between the hours of 9:00-12:00 & 1:00-3:00. If you want your child to be returning to school online only for the upcoming school year, then please come to school on Wednesday to fill out the program application . This is only for parents who do not wish to send their children to school in-person and the whole year will be online. The principal and some staff members will be assisting those who choose this option tomorrow at Oakman school in the cafeteria . Please wear your mask and adhere to social distancing norms of 6 feet apart. If you have more than one child and you wish to enroll all of them into the program, you may also do so at Oakman in one stop.
Thank you and have a nice Tuesday.
