Welcome!

Welcome to School Year 2019/2020 !

Dear Families,

Welcome to the 2019/2020 school year!  I am very excited about this school year.  I hope that you and your child are also looking forward to this school year.  I assure you, I will take very good care of your child while he/she is in my class. I have taught both 2nd and 3rd grades in the recent past.  Teaching both grades this year will be a challenge but with the great group I have this year I don’t foresee any problems!

Home Folders

Starting this week all students were given an Oakman homework  folder.  This folder is to be used by the student to bring home school notes, homework, and papers.  This folder is also for the student/family to use to return papers, homework and notes to school.  Student should get in the habit of bringing home this folder every afternoon, emptying or placing it in a specific spot (a basket, table, counter etc.) where a parent can look at items brought home that day, and then bringing it back to school in the morning.  Please have your child use only this folder throughout the year, as we will be referring to it as the “homework folder.”

Classroom Expectations and Behavior Chart

Classroom Expectations

  1. Treat others the way you like to be treated.
  2. Be respectful of myself, others and property: I raise my hand to talk in class, I follow directions, I listen while others are speaking, and I am respectful of other people’s property.
  3. Be responsible by being prepared each day for school.  I have a pencil, paper, book bag, math bag, and completed homework.  If I do not have a pencil or paper I will solve my problem without disrupting others.

Consequences

1st  warning – DoJo point down

2nd  warning – DoJo point down and sign the behavior book

3rd warning – DoJo point down and student calls parent and tells parent what they are doing.

Snack

We will be having snack every morning at approximately 10:30. Please send in a healthy snack for your child as well as a bottle of water.

Recess

We will go outside in the morning and afternoon as well as at lunch time.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather.

Toys and Electronics

All toys and electronics should be left at home.  Toys brought into the classroom will be held until the end of the school year.  Electronics will be given to the principal and will only be given back to the parent.

Birthday Snacks

Birthday snacks will be handed out at the end of the day while students are walking outside.  Birthday snacks will no longer be handed out at lunch time.

Supplies Students may bring into class

“The Dearborn Public Schools provide all school supplies and learning materials required for all students in all programs.

Parents often request a list of school supplies for their child and although these supplies are NOT required, teachers and principals greatly appreciate the support these additional supplies provide to the classroom”.

Thank you.

We have new desks this year to space is very limited.  I have purchased a pencil bag, crayons, 2 pens, and 2 pencils and a highlighter for each student.  I also have colored pencils and markers for each table group.

Voluntary 2nd/3rd  grade supplies list for 2019/2020 school year

For student:

_3_ composition books with the pages sewn in, NOT spiral bound make sure to get wide lined and not college bound

3 X 5 cards

Colored pencils

Pencils

Pencil sharpener (enclosed to catch the pencil shavings)

1 Ruler

1 Scissors

Dry erase markers

Dry erase eraser (old clean washcloth or sock?)

Blue or black pens

For classroom:

boxes of tissues

sanitizing wipes (like Clorox wipes)

quart freezer bags

gallon freezer bags

loose leaf paper (wide ruled, not college ruled)

With books, workbooks, and pencil pouches there is little room in the desks for excess supplies.  I would appreciate it if art kits, notebooks and large (over 24) boxes of crayons were left in your child’s desk at home.  Thank you for your support in this matter.

Again, I am enthusiastic for the coming school year and I hope that you and your child are as well.  I look forward to seeing you at open house next Thursday September 12th at 6:00.  I am glad your child is in my class.  Please know that I will respect and care for your child while he/she is here with me.  If you have any questions please email me at earlem@dearbornschools.org or send me a message on ClassDoJo.

Sincerely,

Peggy Earle
