2017   Holy Cow!!  The year is flying by.  The Holiday Break is over and it’s Back To Work.  There were lots of tired students on Monday and Tuesday.  I hope you’re all back on a good sleep schedule because the rest of this month is going to really need sharp minds.

NWEA testing has started at Woodworth.   This week, on Friday, we’ll be doing the Science test .  Next week we’re off on Monday, so Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be the Language Arts and Reading test.  The following week will be the Math portion of the test.

This week (actually today) we had a quick 3 question test in Math.  We’ll be taking the district test next week. Also, a science test tomorrow.  Don’t forget to go over your foldable, guided reading, worksheet and THEIVES for the section.  I hope it’s all written out neatly so you can find all the answers.  I’m expecting many, many A papers.

Field trip permission slips for our February trip to the hands on, super cool, Imagination Station in Toledo, will go out Thursday or Friday with it due back next Thursday.  The cost is $20.  You don’t want to miss this day.  As always, we’ll be in need of chaperones.  If you haven’t chaperoned yet this year, make sure you’ve been approved by the district.  That can take a couple weeks, so go to the office at Woodworth and talk to Ms. Maha to see what you have to do. (I think you just have to show her your driver’s license).

Academic Games       We’re doing great.  We’re holding 2nd place right now, out of 8 teams and there’s only one more week to go in the regular tournaments.  Then it’s the SUPER tournament where there are chances to win trophies.  We made a Mannequin challenge video at an optional practice right before the Holiday Break.  Here it is:  IMG_8255

Retakes for either of the recent math quizzes or the Matter science test will be on Thursday morning.  Be at my room between 7-7:15 or you may not have time to sit with me to show your corrections ( a requirement) before retaking the test.  There will not be retakes for these tests after the break.

Math:   HW today was Unit Rate Worksheet #3.   The test on Monday will be very similar to this WS.    Look over WS #1 and #2 to practice for the test.

Next week we will use our knowledge of tax and tip to figure our individual cost for our food order for the Solstice Celebration.   Real World Applications!!

Science:  On Wednesday there will be a quiz on the Atomic Theory.  Study your Guided reading for 4.1 as well as the matrix with the information about the scientist who were key in developing the theory.   INSTEAD OF TAKING THE TEST, YOU MAY DO THE ATOM THEORY PROJECT.  This will be due on Wednesday in place of taking the test.  Bring a book to read while others are taking the test.

Atom Theory Project.   Create a presentation of the progression of the atomic Theory form Democritus to the present.  The presentation should include pictures of the 7 scientists discussed in class, information from the text, notes from class (the matrix) and facts learned on the internet. It can be a small to medium poster or a brochure.  It should show some creativity and must be written neatly with correct spelling and punctuation, or it my be typed.

TEAM 7C says, “Happy Holidays”

So the snow day threw our testing schedule off.  New plan.

Science:  Wednesday will be the matter properties quiz.  Don’t forget to get your brochure finished by this Friday, and the Article assignment is due on the 20th (no late assignments accepted).  Thursday and Friday will will learn about the atomic Theory so that next week we will be working on ATOMS.

Math.  We were going to take the ratio problems assessment yesterday.  We’ll do another day of practicing and the quiz will be Thursday.  IXL will also be assigned tomorrow.  We’ll be doing more Unit Rate practice so we can have a quiz by next Monday at the latest then all we need to work on before the district common assessment (which will be right after the break) is % of a number and simple interest.  We’ll practice both of these concepts next week, review when we get back and be ready for the district common assessment.

Fun Field Trip today.  The play was AWESOME.  The set was very clever with pieces rotating and the lights giving the illusion of snow, a blizzard and other things.  Mr. Lacroix was able to get some students on stage to take pictures with the cast.  These are some of the pictures I have so far.  Some from my camera, and some from Abdullah A.  If anyone has more, I’m more than happy to post them.  Send them to my email. dowgiat@dearbornschools.org
