Our annual Halloween parade will be on Thursday October 31 at 2:00 pm.  If your child wants to wear a costume, they need to come to school dressed in the costume.  The costumes cannot have masks or weapons.  If they choose to wear make-up it must be put on at home.  If you have not made a treat donation and you are able to, please send it in with your child tomorrow morning.

There will be a science test on light on Friday.  We completed a study guide in class today.  The students will need to know sources of light, reflection, refraction, the difference between opaque and transparent, and how shadows are made.

Today I showed the class a website that goes along with our math program.

The website is www.everydaymathonline.com  The students wrote this website in their planners.  They also have their login and password taped to the inside of their planners.

When students log on to this site they first need to choose the unit and lesson that we are working on.   There is a Home Connections section where you can find parent letters, the Home Links which you can print, an online version of the Student Reference Book, and explanations of the lessons. I hope that you will find this helpful in working with your child.

There is also a Games and Practice section.  The students can practice the basic math facts on the Facts Dash Game and the Facts Workshop Game. They can also practice math in the online game section.  In that section there are a variety of games that they can choose from.

This site is new to them and we will go over it more in the days to come.   This is a great way for the students to practice math.  They should be going on this site and practicing math daily.

We are currently doing an author study on Patricia Polacco.  We read her book Thunder Cake and on Thursday we made Thunder Cake in class.

Hello, Geer Park parents it’s time to collect and turn in your box tops. The class with the most accumulated box tops will “WIN” an “Ice Cream Sundae Party” sponsored by the PTA. The box tops must be turned into your child’s teacher by October 22nd in order to enter the contest.
Box tops for education is one of the nation’s largest school fundraising loyalty programs. It’s an easy way for Geer Park to earn cash for the things we need. Each box top coupon is worth 10 cent but they add up fast!

*We have been very busy this week with the MEAP test so we have not had time to practice the spelling words in class.  Our spelling test will not be tomorrow but will be next Friday.

*Lunch for tomorrow, October 11, will be macaroni and cheese NOT fish sandwich.

On the lunch menu for Monday September, 23 it is chef’s choice.  First choice will be burritos.  Grilled cheese will be second choice.

I am sending home book orders today.  If you wish to purchase books for your child, the money and order forms are due on September 24.  You may either send the orders in with your child or you may order online.  If you order online, the books will be sent to me with the rest of the class orders.
