Kindergarten through third grade will be having their spring concert this Tuesday, March 21 at 2:00.  Students have been working very hard on this. Hope to see you there!

*This week students have learned to log into ilearn on the Dearborn schools website to practice for the mathathon. This is a great way to practice as the next mathathon will be online in the same format. Third graders take the addition/subtraction test and the multiplication test.

Students are bringing home a reading log today. Starting today to Sunday March 19, students are to record the time they have read. Parents, please sign the reading log after they have read. DO NOT sign it if your child has not read for the day. The four students with the highest amount of time read will receive a Bookworm patch tag!

Dear Parents,
The staff at Geer Park decided on new honor roll criteria for grades 3 to 5.   Honor Roll recipients need 1s and 2s in 85% of curriculum areas (including art, music and PE), 3s are acceptable in the remaining 15%, but no 3s can be in Core Values. Fours are not allowed.
We will still be having the Principal’s List.  To be on the Principal’s List students need to have all 1s and 2s on their report card.

Dear Families,

I hope everyone had a safe and restful break. As you all may know, children are intrigued by electronic devices. As a result, many children are spending way too much time in front of digital screens. This passive screen time may negatively impact your child’s academic progress, as it is linked to poor social development, behavioral problems, irregular sleep, lack of focus, etc. Therefore, it is crucial to limit the amount of time your child spends in front of the screen. Geer Park School has launched it’s “No Screen” initiative this week. This initiative entails that children should not use electronic devices Monday-Friday, EXCEPT for homework purposes. Please monitor your child’s screen time during homework. Remember technology is valuable when used appropriately, but it does not and should not replace opportunities for unstructured play, meaningful conversations at the dinner table, reading bedtime stories, and so on. Together, we can help our beautiful children succeed. THANK YOU!

Most of the class will be taking the WIDA test on Wednesday, February 15th in the morning. They will be taking the reading portion of the test.  WIDA tests English language proficiency. They will be taking the listening and writing portions at a later date.
