Lansing Field Trip

Yesterday I sent home the permission slip for our third grade field trip to Lansing.  The trip is on Friday, April 13.  We will be leaving Geer Park at 8:00 and returning at about 4:30.  Students will need to be at school by 7:45 that morning.  We will be visiting the Michigan Historical museum for half of the day and the capitol building the other half of the day.  We have spend most of the year learning about Michigan’s history and our next unit will be on government.  Students will need to bring a bagged lunch.  The cost of the field trip is $5.  Chaperones are needed. If you are able to join us, please let me know.

Dear Parents,
The Subway at 6781 Greenfield, near Warren is a generous supporter of our robotics team. Please patronize them whenever possible. They deliver large orders and with notice will have halal meat. Please mention Geer Park.

Thanks,

Reading Contest

We are having a classroom reading contest.  Students brought home a paper with a picture of a fish on it today.  For every 10 minutes that they read at home, they can color one scale on the fish.  When the fish is completed, please sign their paper.  Do not sign the paper if they didn’t read!  Students can get more fish from me if needed.  They can turn in fish as they are completed.  All fish are due on Friday, March 23.  The top 3 students who read the most will receive a patch tag.

Math A Thon

The Math A Thon will be Friday, March 2.  Students will be taking addition/ subtraction and multiplication.  There are 50 problems on each test.

To reach mastery, students need 100% accuracy without time constraints.

To reach advanced mastery, students need close to 100% accuracy within the time limit.  for addition/subtraction they need to complete it in 4 minutes or less.  For multiplication, they need to complete it in 5 minutes or less.  For these, they can get up to 3 problems wrong.

End of Year Expectations–Students must get a 100% on both tests to receive a patch tag.

Math Test

This Friday I will be giving the students the math test for this unit. Don’t worry, it wasn’t graded!  It is on measuring to the nearest half inch, line plots, area, and perimeter.  I gave them back the pretest they took in January today. They do not need to do anything to this pretest, just use it as a study guide.  Tomorrow in class we will be going over it together.  The test will be very similar.  Please make sure they bring the pretest back to school tomorrow.
