Zearn Website

Today I showed the students the website www.zearn.org.  The students glued the login information into their planners on the back of the first page.  Students were able to log in and try out the website for a short time today.  This website has math activities that go along with our math program and it adjusts to the level of each student.  I will be giving students time in class to go on this website but they should also be going on it at home regularly.

Study Island

I gave the students their Study Island login information today.  It is glued on to the front page of their planners.  I showed them how to log on but they have not yet gone on themselves.  This should be familiar to students who were at Geer Park last year.  I have not yet assigned them anything on Study Island but they can go on to the site and click on US programs and choose math or language arts (ELA).  They can also go on Michigan programs and choose science or social studies.

Welcome!

Welcome to third grade! Let me start by introducing myself.  I grew up in Dearborn and have lived in Dearborn for most of my life.  I attended Oakland University and Eastern Michigan University. This year will be my nineteenth year of teaching.   I am very excited to spend this school year with your child. We will have a lot of fun together while learning!

Student Expectations- It is essential students arrive on time every day.  Students are expected to be prepared for class with all their necessary materials. All students must put forth their best effort daily in order to meet all expectations.

Behavior-We use a color system for behavior. Each student will start on green, but will have an opportunity to move up to purple for outstanding behavior. Students can also move down when a rule is broken to yellow, orange, red, or blue. More of this will be discussed at the parent meeting. Students will circle the color of their behavior each day in the planners. If a student is not on green, I will also initial the color of their behavior for the day with a possible note explaining the behavior.

Communication Folders – I will be providing your child with a communication folder.  It is the student’s responsibility to bring this to class daily, since they will be turning in any work, and collecting any new notes in this folder. Here you will find any returned work, notes, and handouts.

Supplies– On Monday I sent home the third grade supply list.  It is greatly appreciated whenever parents can help out.

Absences – It is necessary to call the office when your child will be absent.  The number is 313-827-2300. Please send a note or call before 11:00 a.m. if your child will need to be dismissed early for appointments.

Blog-Please follow this blog for an update of weekly spelling words, announcements, and important events happening in the school and classroom.  On the right side of the screen you can enter your email address so that you will be notified by email when I add a blog post.

Questions and Concerns– Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your child.  If you call during school hours it will go directly to voicemail since we are teaching. We will return your call as soon as possible.  You may also contact me via email donoghk@dearbornschools.org  or send a note with your child.  Please do not wait until a scheduled conference to contact me regarding concerns.

Remind App-  I also sent home instructions on how to sign up for classroom updates on the Remind app.  Please sign up for this so you are able to receive class announcements.
