State Reports

Dear Parents,
In writing, we are beginning a unit on informational writing. Students will write a report on a state. Each student was given a state to find information on. Students need to find information on their state. They will be bringing home a packet that they need to fill out about their state. Along with filling out this packet, they can also bring in information that they printed from the internet. Today they are also bringing home a library book about their state to help them with research.
Some things the students need to find out about their state:

Where their state is located- What other states border their state? Do any countries border this state? Do any oceans or Great Lakes border their state?

Nature- What landforms does this state have? What are some of this state’s natural resources? What types of animals live in your state?

Businesses- Does this state have any important businesses? What products does this state produce?

Other Facts- State bird, state flower, population of your state, tourist attractions in your state, the year it became a state, state capital.

Fun Facts– Anything you find interesting about your state. This could be things like special foods from your state, famous people from the state, and universities in this state.

Students can use the library books they brought home, books from the public library, or information they found on the internet.

Here are a few sites about states that may be useful:

https://kids.usa.gov/learn-about-the-states/

https://www.census.gov/schools/facts/

https://www.enchantedlearning.com/usa/states/

https://www.factmonster.com/states.html

Students need to return this information on Monday, January 6.
The more information they find about their state now, the easier it will be for them to write their reports when we return in January!

Thank you for your help!
