Remote Learning Plans April 20-24, Monday – Friday

Dear First Grade Families,

Here are the online assignments for the week.  I am posting assignments for the week on my blog, through Class Dojo, and through readworks.org.  Please help your child complete the assignments.  At this point, students will be earning credit for doing school work and grades will be entered in the grade book. Students will receive a report card that will include the online school work your child is doing at home. Please email me anytime with any questions you have regarding your child’s assignments.

Spelling – The Spelling words for the week include words with  – ow.  The words are owl, town, frown, clown, tower.  The sight words are own, together, shall, flower, and power.

Monday – Have your child write rainbow words.

Tuesday – Have your child write sentences.

Wednesday – Have your child write words in ABC order.

Thursday – Have your child write each word two times.

Friday – Give your child a spelling test.

Reading – 20 minutes per day

Monday Reading – Log in to readworks.org and read, “Maria Recycles.”  Answer the questions and submit work. Read on RAZ Kids for extra practice.

Tuesday Reading – Log in to readworks.org and read, “Garbage In the Ocean.”  Answer the questions and submit work. Read on Reading Eggs for extra practice.

Wednesday Reading – Log in to readworks.org and read, “A Day To Celebrate Earth.”  Answer the questions and submit work. Read on RAZ Kids for extra practice.

Thursday Reading – Read on Reading Eggs, RAZ Kids, or read books at home.

Friday Reading – Read on RAZ Kids, Reading Eggs, or read books at home.

Writing – 20 minutes per day

The 20 minutes can include the writing that is done with the readworks.org articles and the following writing prompt.

Informational Writing – Write four ways people can protect Earth.  Draw a picture to go with the writing. The writing is due on Friday, April 24.

The writing will include a topic sentence, four ways people can protect Earth, and a closing sentence.

Topic Sentence Example

Earth is important for all living things.  There are many ways to protect Earth.

First,    ( Write a way to protect Earth. )

Next,    (Write a way to protect Earth. )

Then,   ( Write a way to protect Earth. )

Last,    (Write a way to protect Earth. )

Closing Sentence Stem Example

It is important to protect Earth because ____________________________.

Ways To Protect Earth Possible Writing Ideas

People can recycle and things can be used to make other things.

People can reduce waste.  Use a cloth towel instead of a paper towel.

People can reuse things to make other things.

Keep the air clean with less pollution.

Save water by using less water.

Plant trees or a garden.

Use less energy by turning off lights.

Use less energy by riding a bike instead of driving in a car.

Monday – Plan writing.  Draw a picture plan

Tuesday – Write 

Wednesday – Write.  Correct spelling.

Thursday – Write final copy.

Friday – Read to someone and turn in writing.  The writing can be turned in through Class dojo.com or you can take a picture of the writing and email it to me at dobrong@dearbornschools.org.

Math – 20 minutes per day

For Math practice, students can use Math Seeds and Zearn.  Students can also practice counting money and telling time.  

Please have your child go to the Engage New York website or to Knowledge on the Go to do the Eureka Math lessons.

Monday – Do Lesson 16 in Module 4.  Go to Class dojo.com and do the math page 4/20.

Tuesday – Do Lesson 17.  Go to Class dojo.com and do the math page 4/21.

Wednesday – Do Lesson 18.

Thursday – Do Lesson 19.

Friday – Do Lesson 20.

The only math work that needs to be turned in to me are the two math pages I posted on Class dojo.com on 4/20 and 4/21.  

Science – Go to Mystery science.com and follow the first grade  Mystery Science lesson, “Why Do Baby Ducks Follow Their Mother?”

Social Studies – Students will be learning about history and ways to keep track of time.  We are learning about past, present and future time.  

Have your child draw a picture of themselves in the past, present, and what they think they will look like in the future.

The work that I would like your child to turn in to me this week by Friday, April 24, includes the informational writing about ways to protect Earth; the readworks.org questions; and the two math pages 4/20 and 4/21 on Class Dojo.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Earth Day is tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22. Students can draw a picture of a beautiful garden or create an Earth Day poster to celebrate Earth Day.

If you would like to borrow a chromebook for your child to do online homework on the computer, there will be another day scheduled so that you can borrow a computer from Haigh. On Monday, April 27, from 1:00 – 3:30 p.m., you may pick up a chromebook for your child to use at home. Please complete the survey below, if you would like to borrow a computer.

Happy Earth Day!!! You can have your child draw a picture of the happiest place on Earth and have them explain to you why it is the happiest place on Earth.
