I am posting assignments for the week on my blog and through Class Dojo.com and through Readworks.org. At this point, the only work I would like students to turn in to me is their writing. If you are able to submit your child’s writing through Class Dojo.com, that would be great. Another way to turn in your child’s writing is to take a picture of the writing with your phone and send it to my email at dobrong@dearbornschools.org. All of the other assignments I am posting are for practice at home. The work will not be turned in or graded. Please have your child practice at home to maintain and develop their academic skills. It is recommended that at home learning for first graders be from 45 – 90 minutes each day. As you have your child complete assignments at home, keep in mind that the average attention span for a first grader is between 5 – 10 minutes. Lessons can be completed throughout the day to accommodate the specific learning needs for your child. Frequent breaks are encouraged. This will help your child to focus better.
Spelling – The spelling words for the week include words with the long o sound. Some of the words are spelled with -oa and some of the words are spelled with -ow. The words are float, soak, road, snow, and glow. The sight words are full, done, pick, kind, and carry.
Monday – Have your child write rainbow words.
Tuesday – Have your child write sentences.
Wednesday – Have your child write the words in ABC order.
Thursday – Have your child write each word two times each.
Friday – Give your child a spelling test.
