Dear First Grade Families,                                                      11-27-17

The November reading log is due Friday, December 4.  Please make sure your child is reading 15 minutes or more daily for homework and recording minutes read on the log.  I am sending home a story retelling card with students.  Please help your child practice retelling a story as part of reading homework.

I am also sending home a new sight word book for students.  Please help your child review sight words.

Reminders:  Wear gym shoes on Wednesday.  Return library books on Monday.

Dear First Grade Families,                                                11-13-17

Students will visit the book fair at school today.  If students do not bring money to buy books today, they may visit the book fair on Tuesday or Wednesday to buy books.

Spelling booklets will be sent home today.  Please sign and return your child’s booklet.

Parent and Teacher Conferences will be on Wednesday and Thursday evening.  Report cards will be sent home at this time.

Wednesday, November 15, is a late start and school will begin at 9:35 a.m.

Dear First Grade Families,                                                                     11-6-17

This is the first day of the second report card marking period.  Students will receive their first report card during Parent and Teacher Conferences.

Math lessons will now focus on learning about patterns; counting up and back using a number line and number grid; even and odd numbers; telling time; counting money; place value; addition; subtraction and story problems.

Reading lessons will include an emphasis on informational text as students learn about text features.

Students are learning about opinion writing in which they state their opinion about a topic, write reasons to support their opinion, and provide a closing sentence.

Our next Social Studies unit of study is What Is A Family?  Students will learn ways families are alike and different.  Students will learn how families have rules, responsibilities, and work together to help each other.

Science lessons will focus on learning about light waves.  Students will learn about how different sources of light illuminate objects so we can see them.

Students will visit the Haigh Scholastic Book Fair on Monday, November 13.  They may bring money to purchase books at school on that day.
