News from the Jungle

The “Art to Remember” order forms are due by March 13th. If you would like to purchase some merchandise with your child’s artwork on it, please use the form, fill it out completely, include payment, and return to school.

Please continue to do NWEA practice with your child over the next few months. Not only is it good practice for the test, but these are skills that they will need to know for First grade. This website can help reinforce skills we are learning each day at school. Please find the Prepdog link below:

https://www.prepdog.org/

PLEASE PUT YOUR CHILD ON READING EGGS AND MATH SEEDS EACH NIGHT!!!! This is a great way to supplement and support their learning!

If you misplaced your child’s login and need the information again, please email me at dimitrm@dearbornschools.org

Agenda for the Week

Spelling Words for our next spelling test on 3/16: yes, by, want, this, bug, hug, mug, tug, slug

Plus a bonus word which will be one of the following words: rug, jug, shrug

These words will be in the homework which will come home on Monday!

Reading and Writing: This week we really worked hard on understanding what we are reading. It is important that the children can talk about what happened in the story by telling events which happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the book. We also tried to make connections to our own lives and discussed what we liked and did not like from the story.

We continue to focus on diagraphs and blends.

Here are some videos which support the learning we did in class:

Math: The children took their +9 math test on Monday! Next week, we will focus on learning +10 math facts. Our test will be on Friday, March 16th.

10 + 0 = __     10 + 5 = __   10 + 10=__

10 + 1 = __    10 + 6 = __

10 + 2 = __    10 + 7 = __

10 + 3 = __    10 + 8 = __

10 + 4 = __    10 + 9 = __

Here are some addition, subtraction, and greater than/less than videos to support your child’s learning:

Here are some addition videos:

Science: We are going to continue learning about polar animals but focus on how the animals interact with their habitat and discuss the needs of living things.

Social Studies: We continue to learn about maps, globes, and our community. The children recreated their bedrooms by drawing a map and sharing with the class everything that is inside their room at home.

Housekeeping Items:

Spelling booklets: Please be sure to return these promptly on Tuesday!

Snack Time

**** Due to a peanut allergy in our room, please do not send in any snacks that contain nuts.*****

Folders

Please make sure to empty the green folders each night! It is very difficult and time consuming to locate homework or important notes when the folder is full of papers from the day before. Remember to initial the communication log and feel free to add any notes to me!
