News from the Jungle

** I kept the green home folders. Do not panic if you look in your child’s backpack and do not see their folder! I kept them for break and will pass them back out on Monday, February 26th.**

This was such a busy week. I was out sick on Monday and had training all day on Wednesday. Add in our Valentine’s party and the 100th day of school and it was gone in a flash.

I hope everyone will enjoy this mid-winter break. If you are traveling, I wish you safe travels. There is no homework packet during this break; however, please put your child on readingeggs, mathseeds, and the NWEA prep website. Also, continue reading and writing with your child each night and practicing sight words.

Thank you for your support at home! I truly believe that when we work together, we help the children to be the most successful learners they can be! I appreciate all that you do at home with your children!

The art teacher, Mrs. Buenting is doing a fundraiser called “Art to Remember.” A note came home today about this opportunity to buy your child’s art on merchandise. More information is below:

Attention Parents!

School Fundraiser Information: This semester, our school is participating in a unique fundraising program with Art to Remember that gives you the opportunity to purchase keepsake items with your child’s artwork on them. The best part is that every keepsake order supports our school.

Order forms for Art to Remember will be sent home with students on 3/2/18 and are due back by 3/13/18. To see available keepsake items like coffee mugs, key chains, and necklaces,visit https://arttoremember.com/fundraising-p…/keepsake-programs/…/

Please continue to do NWEA practice with your child over the next few months. Not only is it good practice for the test, but these are skills that they will need to know for First grade. This website can help reinforce skills we are learning each day at school. Please find the Prepdog link below:

If you need help on how to support your child in completing the homework packet, please refer to the homework packet instruction video. You can find this video at the top of our blog under the new tab called “How-To Videos.” This is where I will put any videos I have made for the class in order to make it easier to find the videos.

Also, look further down this post for the videos on number bonds.

PLEASE PUT YOUR CHILD ON READING EGGS AND MATH SEEDS EACH NIGHT!!!! This is a great way to supplement and support their learning!

If you misplaced your child’s login and need the information again, please email me at dimitrm@dearbornschools.org

are, here, was, sit, hit, pit, fit, kit, bit

Plus a bonus word which will be one of the following words: mit, lit, spit, split, quit

The purpose of the bonus word is to assess whether the children understand the word family pattern of each word ending in the same two letters -it.

These words will be in the homework which will come home on Monday after break!

Reading and Writing: This week we practiced segmenting and blending words which have the /ar/ sound in them. We pretended we were pirates and said /aaarrrrrrrrrr/ while we stretched words and listened for their sounds. The children wrote words such as dart, cart, bart, smart, start. Some of the children were challenged to write words such as arch, starving, and aardvark. All of the children did well with this letter blend. Here is a video which supports this concept that we learned in class:

Social Studies: The children are loving learning about maps. This week we took time to color community buildings and community workers. We connected with our fourth grade buddies from Mrs. Izbicki’s room and created our own towns and cities using the buildings by drawing roads, parks, and cars to create a giant map. Here are some pictures from this activity:

Here is our map video to help us learn cardinal directions:

Housekeeping Items:

Spelling booklets: Please be sure to return these promptly on Tuesday!

Snack Time

**** Due to a peanut allergy in our room, please do not send in any snacks that contain nuts.*****

Folders

Please make sure to empty the green folders each night! It is very difficult and time consuming to locate homework or important notes when the folder is full of papers from the day before. Remember to initial the communication log and feel free to add any notes to me!
