How Do Arctic Animals Stay Warm?
January 24, 2018
We have been learning about the polar climate and the animals that live there. We know that the arctic is a cold climate and we were wondering how the animals stay warm.
We learned that some of the animals have a layer of blubber underneath their skin. The blubber helps to keep the animals warm in the cold temperatures.
We participated in an experiment to better understand how blubber keeps the animals warm. First, we stuck our hands in a bucket of ice cold water. Then we put on a “blubber glove” to see the difference it would make in how the ice water felt.
The blubber glove was made using baggies and shortening.
Here are pictures from this activity:
We all had a great time of learning and exploring how blubber keeps arctic animals warm!
