Agenda for the Week
Reading and Writing: We worked on recognizing and writing the letter E and the letter V. We learned the sound of each letter and practiced identifying objects that begin with each letter sound. Please continue to help your child correctly hold a pencil and form each letter.
I began teaching the children about nouns this week. We practiced all week long. The children learned that a noun is a person, place, thing, or animal. We completed several worksheets and practiced identifying nouns within sentences. Here is the noun video we use to help support our learning:
If your child is still struggling with writing their name, please practice at home! If you would like name tracers for your child, visit the website below:
https://www.handwritingworksheets.com/flash/printdots/singleword/index.html
Directions: Scroll down until you see a gray rectangle which says, “Step 1: Enter student name, then type your child’s name in the first box and the second one which says, “word.” Choose the size you would like, size 2 or size 3 are best. Then click print.
We reviewed positional words (or prepositions).
Here are the videos we use in class to support our learning:
Here are some videos we use in class to help with letter recognition and letter sound identification:
Math: We practiced recognizing, writing and representing numbers 11 and 12. We continue talking about shapes and began learning about 3D shapes. The children had the opportunity to play the interactive game on the Promethean board that we learned last week. We discussed different patterns such as AB, AABB, AAB. ABB, ABC pattern sequences. We will continue to work more with patterns and 2D/3D shapes over the next few weeks.
We continue talking about place value through counting the days of the year and learning that numbers in the teens start with a one.
Here are a few videos we use in class:
Science: We began talking about body parts. Later this month the children will be able to experience our “skeleton centers.” The children will take part in many activities to help them learn about the parts of the body.
Social Studies: We continue to discuss and model being a good friend and what it looks like to follow the rules. Students have been earning “hoots.” Hoots are given out when children are being good friends, following directions, etc. The hoot raffle takes place each Monday and the name drawn from the class bucket, gets to choose a prize! We have struggled through the lunchroom challenge and have been receiving triangles. Triangles mean that the students did not follow directions. In order to get on O (positive behavior) and win the lunchroom challenge the children must clean up after themselves, stay in their seat and raise their hand if they need help, as well as use an indoor voice. Please help your child to be successful during lunch time by reinforcing these items and by teaching them how to clean up after themselves. Thank you! We are trying to win the prizes!
Housekeeping Items:
I know these items have been repeated for a few weeks, but I still need your help in implementing the items below:
Snack Time
**** Due to a peanut allergy in our room, please do not send in any snacks that contain nuts.*****
Money
When you send money in for lunches, field trips, etc. please place it in a bag or an envelope and label it with your child’s name. Thank you!
Folders
Please make sure to empty the green folders each night! It is very difficult and time consuming to locate homework or important notes when the folder is full of papers from the day before. Remember to initial the communication log and feel free to add any notes to me!
