MobyMax was due today! This is now a missing assignment and will impact your grade tremendously because they are worth 80 points total.  Get this done over Winter Break!

After silent reading we worked in groups to write a collaborative CER response of our choice on “All Summer in a Day”. We were asked to work together to create our response on a poster and draw a detailed picture that related to our chosen information. We will present these after tomorrow’s quiz.

Today we learned about story devices (flashbacks, foreshadowing, suspense, and cliffhangers) and took notes in our ISN.  We also did a vocabulary investigation for our new story “All Summer in a Day”.

Today after our silent reading time we worked in Reading and Writing Stations. Many students were given time to work on late assignments and get them turned in so they can be graded over break. Anything not finished in class remains homework.

Essay final copies were due TODAY!!  Students that were not prepared with their essay in class are subject to a 10% deduction in final score, they were warned about this all week.

Today we practiced analyzing facial expressions for possible Tone and Mood. We took notes on Interjections as well as investigated our new story for difficult vocabulary.

Today we reviewed types of fiction and nonfiction subgenres. We then began to learn about Mood vs. Tone and compared video clips where the tone changed and discussed how it affected how we felt.

Final drafts are due PRINTED no later than Friday, at the beginning of class!  Do not wait until Thursday night to print, anything can happen!  There is printing in the library if you have issues.

Today, we practiced creating an argumentative essay plan as if were taking the MSTEP. Students were given a blank piece of paper and asked to expand on a second idea. Students will choose one of their plans to develop into a rough draft/final copy tomorrow.   ALL ESSAY PLANS NEED TO BE READY TOMORROW – THESE ARE SUMMATIVE GRADES!

We took notes on the differences between the fiction and nonfiction genres. We then discussed strong conclusion paragraphs and were given time to plan ours out. We were given some time to continue with our body paragraphs if we were not done with them after that.  If you did not finish in class, introduction, all body paragraphs, AND conclusions need to be complete by TOMORROW BEFORE class begins!

We went to the library today and then evaluated an argumentative essay written by someone else and re-evaluated our reasoning in our body paragraphs.  We then discussed effective hooks for introductions and planned out our introduction. We were given some time to continue with our body paragraphs if we were not done with them.  If you did not finish in class, introduction and all body paragraphs need to be complete by Thursday BEFORE class begins!
