Today we went to the library to get new books. Students are now allowed 2 books at a time, however, they are responsible for every book they check out!  We also reviewed story vocabulary by taking notes and going through them with a familiar short story, “Little Red Riding Hood”. For writer’s workshop, we began learning about the parts of speech we will cover in our grammar lessons.

Everyone was assigned “Functions of Parts of Speech” on MobyMax – Language. YOU MUST SIGN IN THROUGH CLEVER. Students must earn an 85% or higher in order to pass. This will be due October 31st but they will get some class time to work on it every week.

One-Pager #1 and #2 are due at the end of the month (October 26th). Each student should have at least ONE full novel read by this point in the year and should be currently reading their 2nd book if they are to finish their One-Pagers on time. These are 20 points summative each and will impact their grade tremendously if not turned in. Please make sure you are not waiting until the last day to complete these, they will take more than an evening to complete.

Today we were introduced to our Article of the Week. We previewed and and began to talk to the text to better understand.

For writer’s workshop yesterday we revaluated our CER writing to ensure it had all 5 major components of a CER. This was about the main point of view the author writes “Eleven” in. This was due today but if you need to revise here is the format:

Today we practiced finding relevant evidence by doing a murder mystery called “Slip or Trip?”. The students gather evidence like detectives would using the information from a story and a picture and then decided if the witness was lying or telling the truth based on the information we are given. We created a chart that collected our evidence and reasons why we thought that evidence was important and then used it to write a CER paragraph on whether the witness was lying or not.

We had an assembly about the program Okay2Say in the morning and our schedule was shortened due to this. In class we continued talking to the text with the story “Eleven” by completing a double entry journal to track our textual evidence.
