Did you check out a chromebook or plan to do so?

Here is some guidance to get it working 🙂

It may take up to 24-48 hours for it work

If you have checked out a school Chromebook and are having issues connecting try the steps listed below.
1. Turn off the Chromebook (holding the power button is okay)

2. Turn the Chromebook back on.

3. Connect to your home WiFi.

4. You should see a screen that says “Sign in to your Chromebook”. Leave the Chromebook on this screen for 5-10 minutes.

5. Restart the Chromebook again.

Here are some speech activities that are easy to do at home.

• Play a game where you hide something and give your child specific directions on how to find it (i.e. Go up the stairs.  Turn right and walk to 10 steps. Look behind the pillow.) Then have your child take a turn hiding something and giving you specific directions.

• Play a game where you describe an item and have your child guess what you are talking about.  Then have your child take a turn describing an item for you to guess.

• Write a sentence, cut the words apart, mix up the words, and have your child put the words in order.

• Have your child name all the items they can think of that fit in a category (i.e. fruits, vegetables, etc)

• Ask your child imagination questions (i.e. if you were a bird, what would you see when you are flying)

• Have your child make up a story.

• Have your child tell you how two things are alike and how two things are different (i.e. an apple & a banana; a fork & spoon; a car and a motorcycle)

• Simon Says

• Headbandz game (use it for describing items together, turn-taking, predictions – you can write down what the other person says to help you find out what item you have on your head)

• Make a treasure hunt for the kids to find fun toys or snacks

• Name a shape and have your child go around the house and find things that are that shape

• Place objects from around the house (i.e.: spoon, crayon)  in a pillow case or bag and have your child describe to you what each object is using specific characteristics (i.e. size, shape, color, parts, location, group it belongs to)

It may be raining today, but it’s still a good day to get active.

Make a GoNoodle account at home and do some Zumba, yoga, or any other activities! Try for 20 minutes throughout the day!!

If you receive a packet in the mail please feel free to use that work and not just the work posted on google classroom. Some of the math may be different (please chose 1 or the other–don’t feel you need to do both what was sent home and on google classroom)

Additional assignments may be posted that goes beyond what was in the packet, please feel free to look at those especially into Week 3!!

PTA Book Project Contest!

Students can win a basket from the PTA for reading a chapter book and completing a book project. The baskets will include gift cards and many other gifts! There will be two winners per grade!

ELA teachers will collect the projects from each class and cover the names on them. A committee will go through them and decide on the winning projects using a rubric. Projects must display an in-depth understanding of the book in order to be eligible to win. The committee will use the following rubric components to score each project:

• Creativity
• Neatness and Attractiveness 
• Understanding of Content
• Grammar 
• Overall Effectiveness and Completion

Project options to choose from: 

1. Create an illustrated timeline showing important events from the book.  Choose at least 10 important events from the story. Write a description of each event, and draw & color an illustration for each event.  The events must be in the order in which they occurred.  
2. Write a comic book version of your book.  Use 8 ½ x 11 inch paper (Create the book on the full page or folded hamburger-style.)  Comics should be colored. 
3. Create a mobile from items related to the story.  Select 10 items that represent people, places, events, or other parts of the book and hang them from a hanger using string or yarn.  Write a key that explains each object and why you chose it.  
4. Design and make your own t-shirt.  Illustrate a scene or character from the book on a t-shirt.  Write a short summary of the scene and explain why it is important to the story. If you choose to illustrate a character, write a description of the character and why he or she is important to the story.  
5. Make a new book jacket for the book.  Front cover: Draw and color an illustration for the book.  Inside front flap: Write descriptions of the main characters.  Inside back flap: Write a description of the setting and a short summary of the book.  Back cover: Write 5-10 quotes from the book that are important to understanding the story.  
6. Create a collage to represent the book.  Your collage should have at least 10 photos or illustrations.  Write a key describing each item on the collage. 
7. Create a picture story for your book.  Rewrite the book for a Kindergarten or 1st grade audience. Use short sentences and age appropriate words so that they can read it easily. Make sure to include all major parts of the story.  Illustrate each page to go along with the story. 

Today we will be having our test on 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional Shapes in Math.

We will be starting a small unit in Science on Human Impact on Environment to go along with our previous unit

We are continuing on with our 3 Branches of Government

In Language Arts we will be looking at the Author’s Point of View and determine how the author writes a story.

It is also the beginning of March is Reading Month–Look for exciting activities we will be doing during Advisory and throughout other lessons!
