October is in the Air

I can’t believe we are already halfway through October!  The students are working hard every day on their academics and their behavior skills.

Our kindness jar has become a great addition to the classroom.  It boosts the positive morale of the students each day.

Each week we also have a new Leader of the classroom that will help throughout the week.  This is another boost of positive morale and a great chance at learning what a leader does and how to take responsibility with a role.  Students look forward to each Monday to find out who the new Leader is!

Academically we have been diving into rocks and the rock cycle in Science.  Exploring hands on is their favorite way to learn about rocks.  Which there is no better way!  In math we are working on learning a variety of ways to use multiplication and division strategies and to work on memorizing fast facts too.  In Language Arts, we are writing descriptive with using lots of different synonyms and a variety of adjectives to describe our writing piece.  We are also working on inferring as we read a story.

Wednesday, October 17th: Late Start

Next week- October 22nd-26th: Spirit Week sponsored by Student Council

NWEA Stars

This past week we began NWEA testing and all the students have been doing amazing.

This week we will finish our NWEA testing and I only expect the best to continue.

We took our first spelling test last week and will continue to do spelling this week and in the upcoming weeks unless otherwise noted.

In Math we are continuing our work on fractions.  We are creating fractions from a shape, writing fractions, determining fractional parts, and matching fractional shapes with their words/fraction.

In Language Arts, we will continue to work on our word choice and begin our first writing assignment.  We will be working on our favorite activity and giving an introduction, details, and a conclusion.  We will use Thinking Maps to help guide our writing.

In Science, we are continuing on with Earth Science and focusing on Landforms this week.  We will be focusing on the types of landforms and digging into the vocabulary.

Important Dates:

Monday, 9/17: Monthly parent meeting 9:00am

Welcome Back!

Welcome back! I am excited to start the year off with your students.  As most of you already know, Ms. Wade accepted a new position in the district and isn’t returning to the classroom.  We have kept in touch to keep things moving in the same smooth directions.

We have been busy focusing on our PBIS and school expectations, as well as our classroom rules and procedures.  Everyone has been doing fantastic.

Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns.
