Good morning families~
Here is whatś happening this upcoming week.
ELA/Writing~ Students will continue to be assessed in reading. Our focus in ELA will be narratives, narrowing the focus of characters actions and feelings. We will do this through whole group and small groups.
Math~ Lessons 4-7 this week. Topics will be-Division as an Unknown Factor Problem & Analyze Arrays to Multiply Using Units of 2 and 3.
Please remember if your child does not complete their Sprint in class, it will be sent home. I want these returned the next day. These Sprints are excellent practice for computation.
Social Studies~ Unit 1- Geography of Michigan.
Science~ Unit 1- Forces & Interactions: Focus on motion and types of interactions. We will use Mystery Science this year as a resource and learning tool.
Leader in Me~ Habit 1- Being Proactive.
Our class will be discussing producing quality work. Ask your child,
“How do you know when you have produced quality work?”

Weekend Update! 9/13/19
Good afternoon families~
It was great meeting all of you at last night’s Open House! Thank you very much for attending.
Here are a few reminders for the weekend.
Math~ Lesson 3: # 1-4 Must Do! #5 Can Do! Video link attached. https://embarc.online/mod/page/view.php?id=571
Students must also finish their Sprint. I allow for this to be completed in class too. If they do not bring one home, that means they finished in class. These are VERY important to finish! It is excellent practice.
A note will be coming home, describing the NWEA table that is taped to the inside back cover of their planner. Please email me or write a note in your child’s planner if you have any questions.
If you haven’t signed up for my class REMIND, please do. Here are the instructions on how to do it from your cell phone.

Below is a note from the PTA VP:
Our tentative Homeroom Parent Mtg that was planned for Friday the 13th, will be postponed until next week to allow for our staff to obtain their parent volunteers and for the tentative homeroom parents to plan for the meeting. I will send out an email directly to each parent as well as the staff about the date for next week. We want everyone to be able to attend the meeting and allow our staff to fill their spots. Tonight is Open House from 6-7:30 p.m.! Looking forward to meeting everyone. Please note: CONFERENCE SIGN UP WILL BE IN THE CAFETERIA THIS YEAR!!! DO NOT FORGET TO STOP THERE! LOOK FOR MY NAME ON THE SIGN -UP, MARK THE DATE IN YOUR CALENDAR! I WILL BE SURE TO SEND A REMINDER A WEEK OR SO BEFORE. HERE ARE THE DATES: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7TH, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12TH AND THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14TH. CONFERENCES THIS YEAR WILL BE STUDENT LED. THEY ARE 15 MINUTE TIME SLOTS, FROM 4:30-7:30.

Monday 9/9/19-Update
Good evening~ I hope everyoneś week is off to a great start!
Tonightś homework is for your child to complete their Math sprint. This does not have to be timed. Students who do not finish the sprint in class, will have to complete it for homework. This a great way for them to practice their computation. Let me know if you have any questions regarding this.
FOLDERS- The students wrote in their planners to bring a pocket folders for Math, Social Studies, ELA and Science. This is NOT urgent and I have plenty, so please do not feel as if you have to run to the store to purchase any. Many students mentioned they have folders at home too.
We visited the Book Fair today, and the students created their wish lists. The Book Fair will be tomorrow through Thursday 12-4, then Thursday from 6-730 during Open House.
I look forward to meeting you all at Open House!
Tomorrow the students will be taking NWEA Math, please make sure they eat a healthy breakfast and have a good nightś sleep.

This week at a glance-9/9-9/13
Good evening families~
Here is what we are up to this upcoming week.
ELA~ I will continue to assess students in reading. We will also begin the new ELA pilot. It is called Ready Gen. I will send a note home this week about the program and setting the students up for the online component. Look out for this info coming home and/or on the blog!
Please make sure your child is reading every night for at least 20-30 minutes. I will be sending home the ¨At home” reading letter this week as well. Students will be responsible to keep track of their reading every night.
Math~Lesson 2-5 this week. Daily homework will be sent home and the students will begin working on Zearn.
NWEA~ Students will be logging their RIT scores in their planners. Look for this on the inside front cover.
Leader in Me~We all enjoyed learning about each other these last couple weeks through the brown bag activity. Ask your child, what they learned about the other students in the class. This week we will be learning about Paradigms and how they part of our daily life.

The students started sharing their paper bag activities! I love listening and getting to know each of them! Itś been so fun! Thank you for sending in pictures too!!
Today, we had our first library check out. Students may bring their books to and from school. I would like the books with them in class for the next couple weeks. This is for Independent Reading time.
Change of date for NWEA: We will begin Reading Thursday, the 5th at 9:00 a.m. instead of tomorrow.
Here is a note about the Scholastic Book Fair:
Our first Scholastic book fair of the year is here starting Monday, September 9! Monday will be our preview day. Purchase dates are NOON UNTIL 4:00 Tuesday through Thursday. This week at a glance 9/3-9/6.
Good morning families~ Happy Labor Day! I hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful long weekend. Here is the upcoming week at a glance.
I will begin DRA reading assessments this week. This is when I test each student individually on reading comprehension and fluency. This assessment guides me as a teacher to better understand your child as a reader.
NWEA- This week, I will be administering the NWEA assessment as well. Students take this assessment three times a year: fall, winter and spring. They will be taking the assessment on Chromebooks in the classroom. Please make sure they arrive to school on time, and eat a hearty breakfast! Here is the schedule below:
Reading: 9/4/19- 9:00 a.m.
Math: 9/5/19- 9:00 a.m.
Language: 9/11/19- 9:00 a.m.
Math~ We will begin math this week and the students will start working on Zearn.org. More information will be coming home in regards to this. Also, look out for daily math homework.
Leader in Me- Seven Habits: We will continue building our classroom environment by practicing expectations and procedures. Ask your child how they demonstrating putting “First things First” this week!

Mid-Week Update 8/28/19.
Good evening families- We have been reviewing the 7 Habits this week. We are creating our classroom environment, which involves expectations and procedures. The students are using their proactive language and we discussed our personal circle of control. Ask your child how we made Smores today! They loved it.
The students have a brown paper bag activity, that is due on Tuesday, Sept 3rd. I sent home the bag and directions tonight. This is a fun activity for all of us to get to know each other.
Please complete any of the notes, I sent home this week. Also, a friendly reminder to check your childś planner and sign it every night.
Tomorrow the students have music.
Reminder no school Friday and Monday. Happy Labor Day!
