Chewing gum is against school rules but many of our students continue to do so. My classes have been warned about this problem and why they will get a zero for the day. Some of the reason we don’t chew gum is because it get spit onto the floors, stuck on walls, put in sinks and drinking fountains, tossed into teachers plants, stuck on shoes and clothing, and placed under tables where many students might put their hands on it. Since they have been talked to about the problem, if the direction is ignored then the student is being insubordinate.
