Image result for extra practice

Hi families!

Over the 2 week break, we are organizing a fun holiday challenge for your child to participate in to help prepare them for the upcoming NWEA tests in January.

Here are the rules to participate in the challenge:

  • Practice the questions found within the Reading NWEA Review Packet.
  • Practice the questions found within the Math NWEA Review Packet.
  • For each day you practice, check off which packet you studied and record the number of minutes spent working for that day.

Turn this calendar (coming home with your child on Friday) in to your child’s teacher when we return from break and if you met the goal, you will earn a special prize!!

*** As you can see, the packets are quite large. To help save paper, we did not print out both the ELA and Math packets for every student. Each student will receive one packet in the area in which they scored the lowest for the first round of testing. We ask that you use this packet to study with your child and use the online resources to study the other area which are provided with the links below.

These are GREAT resources because they are directly aligned to the NWEA test that will be taking in reading and math in January and again in May. When you practice, you can read the question to your student, show them to answer options and let them choose the correct answer. You do not have to print these cards out and no writing needs to be involved; they can just read the card, read the answers and make their choice. From there, you can have a conversation about why they chose that answer and if it is correct or incorrect. Feel free to start at the beginning of each bundle and work your way through the packet. The beginning questions are the easiest and they get harder as you move through the packet.

***Please know that this is just EXTRA practice. I will not be grading it and it is not mandatory. Some parents asked to have access to the NWEA packets ahead of time to get a jump start. I do not want anyone to feel that I am adding extra work! I know this is a break for the kids and some people are traveling for the holiday. I want the kids to keep up, but I also want them to be kids and have fun. A little bit goes a long way.

If you have any questions, please ask!!

I hope you all have a safe, warm and restful holiday break 🙂

Ms. Otto
