Outsiders Flip Book/Foldable

On Thursday, April 25th (or Friday, April 26th, if absent), all students received a 15 page “flip book” that will be completed throughout the reading of the novel.  As this assignment work will span the course of approximately 5 weeks, it is being graded at a value of 5o SUMMATIVE points.  All students were informed that they will automatically lose 10 points (20%) of the 50, if they lose the packet and I have to give them a new one.  They are required to have this packet with them in class at all times and have been informed that there will be unannounced, random checks for their progress on the work.

This booklet will not only aid them in classroom work and discussions, it will serve as their study guide for each of the intermittent tests throughout the unit.

Please email me if you have any questions.

Outsiders Reading Requirements

As we begin to read The Outsiders novel, all students (and parents) should be aware that keeping up with the day to day reading is required, whether you’re in class, or not.  With the end of the school year fast approaching, we have a limited number of days to complete this novel and students will fall behind quickly if they do not keep up with the reading.

Previous posts include both a link to purchase a copy of the novel (not required), and the full text, in a PDF.

As of this post, students should have read the first 10 pages of chapter 1.

Please email me with any questions.

Homework Reminder!!

Please remember that you have a CER assignment due by 8 am tomorrow morning. The two TTTT/annotated articles are due when you come to class.
All details can be found in the previous post.
The CER part of the assignment is summative and will weigh heavily on your grade, especially if you do not complete it.
Email me ASAP with any questions.

“Gang” CER Assignment

Holocaust Survivor-Guest Speaker

On Monday, April 15th, we have a Holocaust Survivor, Irene Miller, coming to speak to our students during 4th hour. Students will get a chance to ask a prepared question after her presentation. Copies of her book, Into No Man’s Land: A Historical Memoir will be available to purchase for $15. Parents and guardians are welcome to attend, though seating is limited due to capacity.
Children may not attend. Parents who wish to attend should arrive to the school by noon. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Homework Reminder

This is just a friendly reminder that ALL students have a very brief assignment that is due before they come to school tomorrow. Most classes had the chance to work on this in school before we left for the break.

All information and directions can be found on google classroom (students all have their own username and password); send any questions ASAP

Literary Terms Part 2-Reminders

All students should (hopefully) be working on their Literary Terms Booklet part 2 tonight and this weekend.
This assignment is due Monday, March 18th, and is worth 35 summative points.
Students were given specific instructions, as well as examples to review and reminded of the importance of on time completion, multiple times this week. It will be difficult to complete this task at the quality level desired AND achieve full points doing it the night before.
The assignment rubric and instructions were given in class on the 11th and are attached below.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
