Supplies Needed

As we are now at the half way point in the school year, some students are in need of replenishing their supplies. Some (not all) are without pencils, paper and other basic supplies on a daily basis. Also, we use highlighters quite frequently and I only have a small supply for those who don’t have one of their own. Please check with your student and try to re-stock them with the materials they need to finish out the school year. Please refer to the syllabus for the original list. Let me know if you have any questions.

End of Card-Marking SSR Obligations

This is just friendly reminder that the end of the card-marking is Friday January 29, 2016. All students are required to turn in an Exit Ticket (for a book they completed this card-marking), as well as a Literary Letter, for SSR. They know what these are, and have directions sheets for both. They also know that these can be turned in at anytime throughout the card-marking. To this point approximately 10-15 of 130 students have turned in both. THESE ITEMS ARE DUE BY WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 27TH. After this the items will be considered late (see syllabus for late work information), and will not be accepted at all if not turned in by Friday.

The Literary Letter is summative points and will negatively affect the students grade (like getting a zero on a test) if not turned in by the end of this week. For some students who did not turn them in at all last card-marking, this was the difference between a B and a D on their report card.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Argument Paragraph-Final Copy

This is just a reminder that all students (in school tomorrow, or not) are required to turn in a final, corrected copy of their argument paragraph to google classroom.
They have the rough drafts, with feedback from me on it, and should make corrections accordingly.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Rough Draft Due Tomorrow

Remember that your rough draft is due tomorrow, whether you are in school or absent.
Please submit via classroom.google.com

You also need to bring two printed copies to class for peer editing and for me to write suggestions on.

Let me know if you have questions asap.

Research Project Due Dates

Last week a list of dues dates were given to students, as well as posted here on the blog. These due dates are non-negotiable. Many students have been out sick, or for other school related activities and are coming back unprepared with their materials due. While I understand that some need the extra time, some are also trying to take advantage of the situation. The majority of the assignments can be done from home and are necessary to move on to the next step in the process. All students will have due a rough draft of their argument paragraph, on Friday January 15th. This is due whether they are going to be in school, or not. It is being submitted via google classroom, so there should be no problem getting it in on time. Let me know if you have any questions.

Research Project

Welcome back to school. I hope everyone enjoyed the break. We are back to work and settled into our school schedules again.

Students have been assigned, and will be working on, a research project for the next couple of weeks. On Monday they were given a list of possible topics (see attachment). Many of these topics are controversial and of a more mature nature. Because of the maturity of the topics, students were required to have a parent sign the topic sheet once they made a decision. Today was the due date for that to be turned in. A number of students did not have the paperwork with them, or it wasn’t signed, therefore, they could not do their research. They will need to have this tomorrow or they will be unable to work in class again.

I have attached the topics sheet, the permission page, and the other upcoming due dates for you to have. If you have any questions please let me know.
