Textbooks, Library Books, Fines, etc….

Approximately two weeks ago I collected student textbooks. Roughly 20 students were charged for a “rebind” fee ($11.00) or to replace a lost or damaged book ($100.00). To this date only one student has made payment to the office. All fees must be paid by June 8th or students will NOT be allowed to participate in any of the end of the year events. Below is a reminder issued from the office.

Please remind students that all library books must be returned by Wednesday, June 1 and all book fines and cafeteria fees must be paid by June 8. If books are not returned and fees are not paid, 6th and 7th grade students will not be allowed to participate in the Levagood field trip, 8th grade students will not be allowed to participate in the Chicago class trip, the Cedar Point field trip or the Honors Assembly and all students will not receive their class schedules for next school year.

All books from my classroom library are due no later than June 6th. Students will still be doing SSR and must bring a book from home to read after that date.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Outsiders-Greaser/Soc Dress-up Day

As a part of our unit on The Outsiders, students are asked to participate in a Greaser/Soc dress-up day.

We will do this on Friday, May 20th, 2016. Students can choose what to wear to best represent the group they choose, but all attire and accessories must follow school dress code.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Flowers for Algernon Packet and Quiz Information

Attention all parents and students-

The Flowers for Algernon packet is due Monday, May 2nd. This work is worth 90 formative points. This is something that was assigned over 1 week ago and was listed on the FFA calendar (see previous blog posts). Unfortunately, it will not be acceptable to turn this in “late” as it is going in on this card-marking. If your student will not be in school (Monday), for whatever reason, the packet must be dropped off to my mailbox no later than 4 pm.

Today we had our final quiz on Flowers for Algernon. Several students missed this due to absence and will need to make it up on Monday either before school (at 7:15 am) or during their class period. As we will be watching the Flowers for Algernon movie in class Monday and Tuesday, I want to let students know they will miss part of it, if they are unable to come before school to take the quiz.

Both of these assignments were listed on the calendar, which they have had since April 18th, and students were repeatedly made aware of the importance of adhering to the deadlines.

As always, please email me with any questions.

Have a GREAT weekend!

End of the Card-Marking Obligations

This is just friendly reminder that the end of the card-marking is Friday April 29, 2016. All students are required to turn in an Exit Ticket (for a book they completed this card-marking), as well as a Literary Letter, for SSR. They know what these are, and have directions sheets for both. They also know that these can be turned in at anytime throughout the card-marking. To this point approximately 15-20 of 150 students have turned in both. THESE ITEMS ARE DUE BY TUESDAY, APRIL 26TH. After this the items will be considered late (see syllabus for late work information), and will not be accepted at all if not turned in by Friday.

The Literary Letter is summative points and will negatively affect the students grade (like getting a zero on a test) if not turned in by the end of this week. For some students who did not turn them in at all in a previous card-marking, this was the difference between a B and a D on their report card.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
