Google Classroom-French Fry Assignment

Today students were given homework for this weekend. They will need to read and highlight a very brief article (given in class) and then use the directions below to complete a short response in Google Classroom. The assignment must be sent to me through google classroom. Students were asked to see me if they had no access to a computer, before leaving today.

After you read and highlight the “French Fry” article, please write a short argument paragraph. You are basically trying to condense the argument from the article.
Your paragraph must contain your claim, 1-2 data and warrant, a counterclaim and a rebuttal. This paragraph cannot be more than 8 sentences. You may take a direct quote from the article and you will have to make inferences from what the text says to complete this task.
This is due by 8:00 Monday, September 26, 2016

Students have been asked to email me with any remaining questions that they have, and to do so sooner than later.

Have a GREAT weekend!!

Tardies

I want to post for you a reminder that students are expected to come to class on time and prepared to work every day. This means that they have with them their planner, their binder for language arts, their pencil pouch/writing implements and their SSR book. None of these items are optional; all of them should be brought to class everyday.

If a student comes to class unprepared and has to ask to go back to their locker for any of these materials, they will be marked tardy, if they cannot make it back to the classroom before the designated start time**.

Three tardies in one class, within a card-marking, will result in a detention being assigned.

As my students are in 8th grade, they should all be able to navigate the building and plan accordingly on how to manage their time (ex: if one student can make it to my classroom from the other side of the building, then so should they all).

Please contact me with any questions that you have about this policy.

**Extenuating circumstances will be taken into consideration.

Thank You/NWEA

Thank you so much to the parents, grandparents and others who came in for open house last night. It was great to meet you all and to share with you some of the learning that will take place in our classroom this year.

Also, I would like to give you a heads up about our schedule for next week. We will be doing our first round of NWEA testing for both reading and language, from Monday-Thursday. This will give the students a baseline for the year and we will work to go up from there.
Please email me with any questions you have about the testing.

Finally, we could really use some tissue box donations for our classroom. I have mentioned it to the students, but have only received two boxes thus far. With cold and flu season just around the corner this would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great evening!

WELCOME to the Class of 2021!!

Well, we made it through the first week of school. It was a hot one, but we learned many things about each other and began to put into place some of our class rituals.

Students have received information about SSR (Sustained Silent Reading), an at home reading contract and the class syllabus, including the suggested supply list. Many students have already returned their signed papers, but I have included them below just in case you never saw them.

All students should come to class Tuesday with the proper materials (on the syllabus).

Remember, there is no school on Monday and we have Open House on Wednesday from 6-7:30.

Have a GREAT weekend and welcome to Mrs. Corriveau’s Language Arts.

Final Outsiders Test

One final reminder……ALL students who are not here for the final Outsiders quiz tomorrow MUST be here at 7 am on Monday, June 13th to take the make-up test.
Only 50 of my 145 students should need to be here on Monday. The rest should be in school tomorrow to take the test, unless is it absolutely necessary to be out.

Again, if you are absent for any reason tomorrow, you need to be here Monday morning at 7 am for the make-up.

Final Outsiders Quiz

The final quiz for The Outsiders book is scheduled for Friday, June 10th. All students have known this since last week Tuesday. Any student who is in Chicago, or who is for any reason absent on Friday, will need to be here at 7 am Monday, June 13th to take the make-up quiz.

Please have your student here no later than 7:10 or they will not be able to start the quiz.

Students who attend DCMST have been accommodated and will meet me 3rd hour to take the quiz.

Please email me asap with any questions.

LATE WORK

As it is becoming a problem today, I wanted to address the late work policy for this class.

With school ending for the year next week, NO late work will be accepted after Friday, June 10th (unless an arrangement has already been made). This policy was stated in the syllabus signed by parents at the beginning of the year.

The Outsiders Quilt was due today, whether your student was in school, or not. At this time MANY students have not turned it in and it will be marked down 10% per day it is late.

For the record, they have had since May 11 (4 weeks) to work on the quilt. As the quilt is a summative assessment, not turning it in at all will affect grades in a negative manner.

Let me know if you have any questions.
