Anne Frank Field Trip Rescheduled

I just wanted to let all parents know that I was able to reschedule our field trip to Thursday, March 16th.
The theater generously offered to extend the run of the show by one day to accommodate our situation. 🙂

I talked with all classes today about this and hope everyone will still be able to go.
If for any reason, your child cannot attend on this new date, please email me at corrivr@dearbornschools.org to let me know.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Upcoming Due Dates

Given our unexpected 2 days off last week, and this week being the end of the card-marking, we have many assignments due this week.

I have attached the “Week at a Glace” that is on our board EVERY week for students.

All items, and due dates were discussed in class today.
These due dates are firm, and I cannot accept late work this week.

Anne Frank Field Trip Reminder

This is just a reminder that students will be going on the Anne Frank Play Field Trip next week, Thursday, March 9th.

As was indicated in the permission slip, all students are expected to dress theater appropriate for this event.

Students who will not attend the trip are still expected to be in school and will have an alternate assignment given.

I have attached a copy of the original permission slip with additional details. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Have a great weekend!!

Winter Break Homework Reminder

This is just a friendly reminder that all students who received a 6 or lower on the example portion of their Literary Terms Booklet (Part 1) need to make corrections to their examples. This is due when we return, Monday, January 9th. This applies to, at least, 50% of my students.
All students should be reading over the break as well.
Let me know if there are any questions.

My Favorite Character-D.O.A.F.

Below are the directions for the work given in class today. You must complete this “4 Square” assignment to be able to do the summative assignment in class tomorrow. This is due when you walk through the door. I have also attached the sentence starters (using mine is optional) shown in class today.
Please email me with any questions.

The Diary of Anne Frank
My Favorite Character

Fold your paper into four parts. Choose one character from the play to focus on. You will need to use complete sentences, check your spelling, and include textual evidence to support your thinking.

Box 1-Name your favorite character and draw a picture of them, one that symbolizes the character or their personality. Explain why and/or how this picture represents your character. Remember to cite textual evidence, including line and page number.

Box 2-List five adjectives that describe your character. Find one sentence from the text that helps the reader to understand your character’s personality and copy it into this box. Remember to cite textual evidence, including line and page number.

Bpx 3-Write a paragraph explaining why this character is your favorite (at least 4-5 sentences). Think about how you connect to this character.

Box 4-Find something in the text that your character said that had an impact on you. Copy it and explain how it affected you. Remember to cite textual evidence, including line and page number.

What Are You Still Wondering Assignment Information

Below are the directions from today’s google classroom assignment. Please note changes are in BOLD Capitol Letters.

You will pick one topic from the expert folders that is still unconfirmed or that you would like to know more about. You will research that topic on the chrome books and put your findings in the google classroom “question” box in class today. Please remember to use the guidelines for valid research.

Make sure to list/introduce your topic in the response box before you just paste the paragraph(s).

Over the weekend you will need to look at AND READ other students findings and comment on at least 2 other topics. YOU MUST READ AND RESPOND TO OTHER STUDENTS PARAGRAPHS WITH A SENTENCE (OR 2) THAT INDICATE YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT YOU READ. YOU MAY NOT JUST ASK ANOTHER QUESTION!!

YOUR RESPONSE TO YOUR ORIGINAL QUESTION MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE SUNDAY, SO THAT OTHER STUDENTS HAVE A CHANCE TO REPLY. IF YOU DO NOT GET THIS DONE AT A REASONABLE TIME AND ALLOW FOR OTHERS TO SEE IT, YOU WILL LOSE POINTS.

End of Card-Marking Obligations

This is just friendly reminder that the end of the card-marking is next week, Friday December 2nd, 2016.

All students are required to turn in ONE Exit Ticket (for a book they completed this card-marking), as well as a Literary Letter, for SSR by MONDAY, November 28th.

They know what this is and that it is something they can turn in at anytime throughout the card-marking. To this point approximately 15-20 of 140+ students have turned in both.
The Literary Letter is summative points and will count as a zero on a test if not turned in.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Enjoy the LOOOONG weekend. Happy Thanksgiving!

Progress Reports

Today all students will receive a progress report from me. We are just past the halfway point in this 2nd card-marking and some students already have some catching up to do.
Please review the information on the progress report with your student and sign it. These need to be returned by Monday, November 14th. They will receive 10 pts. for returning them, signed and on time.
Please email me with any questions that you have.

FYI-students will be taking a quiz on The Tell-Tale Heart on Monday; they should be studying this weekend :).

Have a GREAT weekend!!
