Hello Parents!

Can you believe it? Our card marking ends on Friday! Please make sure your child has completed all assignments by Friday, otherwise a zero will be factored in to their grade and will bring that grade down. Grades can be found on Schoology or Parent Connect.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are starting next week! I will send out a sign up genius for you to pick your time for a virtual conference. The dates will be Thursday, November 5th; Tuesday, November 10th; and Tuesday, November 17th. All conferences will be in the evening.

Thank you for your support during our online learning. Hopefully, we will be back in the classroom soon!

Please email or message me if you have any questions or concerns.

Happy Sunday!

Hello Parents!

We will begin virtual reading groups this week. There will be three reading groups that will need to meet with me throughout the week. The Blue Group will meet me on Zoom from 2:00-2:30 every Monday and Wednesday. The Red Group will meet with me on Zoom from 2:35-3:05 every Monday and Wednesday. The Orange Group will meet with me on Zoom from 3:10-3:35 on Monday and Wednesday. Your child can check the Schoology page to see what group they are in.

Learning Labs will also begin this week. I have invited three students to meet with me in person on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00-3:30. These will begin this week. Some children have been invited by Mrs. Saad to meet with her during the same time period.

There will be a Module 2 Math Assessment on Wednesday of this week. Please make sure your child has completed all of their homework in the Succeed book as well as on Zearn. Most students did poorly on the first assessment, so I am looking forward to better scores this week! Please check your Class Dojo, I have messaged specific parents to let you know that your child is behind.

Also, there will be no Zoom Meeting Tuesday morning. We will be distributing math and reading materials outside the 4th grade door from 9 am-12 pm on Tuesday. Please make sure that you or a representative for you (neighbor perhaps?) picks up the materials for your child.

Please email or message me if you have a question or concern. Have a great evening!

Good Wednesday Morning!

I hope everyone is well! I wanted to give you an update about our schedule:

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, your child will need to meet with me on Zoom at 12:25-1:00 where we will do our synchronous work in either Social Studies or Science. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, your child will do asynchronous (independent) work in these subject areas. All directions are posted on Schoology under the daily folder.

We will begin reading groups next week, so please look at your Class Dojo messages daily to get information about when and where your child will meet with me in small groups. Some groups will be coming in to school twice a week and others will meet with me virtually. All of the group time will be taking place in the afternoon. Times will vary depending upon the group.

Also, if you are wondering if your child is missing any work, you can go to Parent Connect on the Dearborn Schools Website, or go to schoology and click on Grades.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me or message me on Class Dojo.

Thank you for all of your support to help your child get back into the habit of a school schedule. Have a great rest of your week!

Happy Saturday!

Hello parents!

I just wanted to let you know that most of the class has completed the Reading NWEA and we will begin the Math NWEA on Monday, October 5th.

In addition to the zoom meetings daily at 9:00 am and 10:30 am, your child will meet with me on zoom Tuesday and Thursday at 12:25pm. During this time I will be teaching science and social studies on alternate weeks. Monday we will begin our Science lessons.

In addition to science and social studies, I will begin “In person” meetings with small groups of students. I will begin on Tuesday with students who have not completed their Reading NWEA. The meetings will take place from 2:00-3:30 pm. We will work together to get that done. Please check your Class Dojo messages daily since I will be notifying individual parents that their children need to come in for an “In person” meeting with me.

We are still awaiting the decision by the Dearborn School Board as to which direction we will go regarding returning to school. We should hear their decision on October 12th. At that time we will proceed as directed. Thank you for all of your support and flexibility during this time. Your dedication to your child’s education is invaluable.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and as always, email me or message me if you have questions or concerns.

So far as a daily routine, we have a reading response daily, math homework and a zearn lesson daily, and iready practice each and every day. We will be adding social studies and science in the weeks to come. Please make sure your child is completing their obligation at home to fulfill their academic requirements.

There is also required work in each of the special areas. Writing Enrichment on Monday, Art on Tuesday, Physical Education on Wednesday and Friday, and Music on Thursday. Please double check with your child to assure that these assignments are done.

Have a great weekend, and as always, contact me if you have any questions!

We also have good news about Girls on the Run:

Do you have a 3rd-5th grade girl that could use some outdoor activity after a day at school? Girls on the Run has opened a team at Snow Elementary with limited spots available! Practices will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 4-5:15pm, starting October 6! Trained coaches will be partnering to lead these girls through this amazing youth development program with a running focus – all modified to keep girls socially distant and safe . Groups will be limited to 12 in order to stay spaced out. Check out gotrdetroit.org for safety and general program info. Register for the team at https://bit.ly/3hXoxlg Girls on the Run is so much fun!

Happy Thursday!

Good Afternoon!

Please make sure your child is completing their assignments on Schoology. I have several students missing MANY assignments. All of the assignments count for a grade, so if you are unsure whether or not your child has missing assignments, you can check on Parent Connect on the Dearborn Schools website.

Today is a Music special, so please check to see that your child is also completing any work assigned by the specials teacher.

Thank you for all the support, please email me at chasen@dearbornschools.org if you have any questions, or message me on Class Dojo.

Have a great day!

A note from our new Principal!

Dear Parents/Guardians of Snow Elementary,

It is with great pleasure and an honor to serve you as the new principal of Snow Elementary School beginning October 1st of this year. I look forward to meeting all of you and working alongside the community.  I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich legacy of success and so many points of pride. I have dedicated my career to the students of Dearborn for the last 16 years. I started my career as an elementary classroom teacher then moved on to an elementary resource teacher/instructional coach at Salina intermediate. I then moved on to be a middle school bilingual resource teacher and have spent the last four years as Assistant principal at Woodworth Middle School. I am eager to dedicate my skills to the Snow community.

As all of us embark on the upcoming school year we do so for the first time with high levels of uncertainty due to the current international crisis we all know as Covid-19. This has affected all of us in so many ways. Our students and community as a whole have had to encounter many hardships as a result. However, this will not deter our mission to make this school year the best one ever. I plan on working with parents, teachers, students and the entire Snow community to ensure that our students are safe and learning at high levels. Together we will continue to provide experiences that are rigorous, relevant and with relationships based on trust to prepare them for their future endeavors. As your new principal it is important to me to greet everyone who enters the school with the utmost respect. I have an open door policy and value every stakeholder’s opinion. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any concerns you may have or any points of pride you would like to share.

I look forward to our work together in the years to come and establishing a team committed to the Snow community. Please stay safe and have a great school year.

Sincerely,

Mohammad Abdelfattah

Snow Elementary Principal
