Science Fair Meeting

Good Afternoon!

There will be a Science Fair Meeting for parents on Thursday, May 1st in the Media Center.  The meeting will be from 5:00-6:00.   Parents may bring their questions or dilemmas and ask Mrs. Visea.  Please call the office (313) 827-6250 to let us know you are coming.

May 7th is Bike to School Day!

There will be a new arrival procedure in place beginning on April 28th.  ALL students will be required to line up with their class at the appropriate arrival door.  No students or parents will be allowed to wait in the lobby unless it is raining.

Also, beginning on April 29th, the School Store will be open after school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays only.  It will no longer be open before school.

Jump Rope for Heart money due!

Tomorrow we will be jumping for the Heart Association…please make sure your child brings in the money they have collected to turn in to Mr. Quine.  Also,  gym shoes need to be worn on Tuesdays and Thursdays!

Your child’s homework today consists of them mapping out the kitchen of their house (we are beginning a new unit in math/perimeter and area).  Please make sure they bring in their Study Link 7.11 completed.  They may need help mapping out the kitchen.

Have a great evening!

Late Start Tomorrow!

Please remember that school starts one hour later tomorrow (9:35).  Also, if your child eats breakfast here, make sure they go to the cafeteria.  Breakfast will be served from 9:00-9:30.

We have a test on Unit 7 tomorrow.  You can go to the everyday math website to help your child review for the test.  The majority of the test will be on fractions.

Also, make sure your child is practicing multiplication facts each night.  We have added x11 and x12 to our daily timed test.

Jump Rope for Heart money is due Thursday.  If your child collected any, please make sure they bring it Thursday and give it to Mr. Quine.

Enjoy the beautiful weather!

Please check your child’s homework folder

Just a note to remind you that homework folders need to be checked daily.  Many children have unfinished work in their homework folder that may not show up in their planner as a homework assignment.  Also, please keep all of the “keep at home” materials at home.  I have noticed that some children have completed work piling up in their homework folders and it is causing some confusion.  Thank you for your help with this!

Don’t forget that Tuesdays and Thursdays are gym days…the children should be wearing gym shoes to school or bring gym shoes if they are wearing boots.  Mr. Quine is expecting responsible 4th graders to be prepared!  Also, Jump-rope for Heart starts this week!  It is hard to jump in boots or street shoes!!

Mondays are library days!  Several children forgot their library books today!  Please make sure that they have their books each and every Monday in order to turn them in and pick new ones.

Have a great evening!!

Beautiful Sunday

I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful Sunday!  It is great to see the end of the snow…

This week in spelling we are focusing on words that end in -y-.  We will be changing them to plurals by dropping the/y/ and adding /ies/.  The spelling words are as follows:  batteries, properties, berries, worries, families.  The content words are:  Congress, President, Judge, Senator, Representative.

We will continue to work on our Cookie Sale Project as we study economics.

In math, our Unit 7 test on fractions will be Wednesday.  We have been working hard on comparing fractions, finding equivalent fractions, and adding mixed numbers.  Please make sure your child has completed all homework assignments and have turned them in to me for credit.

In science, we will be learning about magnets and electricity.  I also hope that your child is continuing to work on their Science Fair Project which is due in May.

As always, please make sure your child makes reading an everyday habit.

Have a great week!

Cookie Sale

Our class is partnering with Mrs. Dumke’s class by planning and implementing a cookie sale on April 17th.  We will be involved in marketing, planning and selling cookies to our fellow students during the lunch hours here at school.  This activity goes along with both of our classes Economics Unit.  We will learn about supply and demand, scarcity, opportunity cost and profit margins of businesses by working together on the Cookie Sale.  Ask your child what committee they are on and what plans they have for our exciting April 17th sale.

Reminder:  many students are still having trouble with their multiplication tables.  Please make sure that your child is practicing each and every night.  They need to have these memorized in order to be successful in division.  Encourage use of computer games and flash cards in order to help them succeed.

Have a great weekend!!

Homework for tonight

Good Afternoon!

Students will have an unusual homework assignment tonight.  We learned a new game today called “Fraction Top It”.  I am asking that your child play at least 5 rounds of this new game for their homework tonight.  Please make sure your child is using the language of mathematicians.  They should be saying ” 1/2 is more than 1/3 because…” or “1/8 is less than 4/5 because…” and explaining their thinking.  Please make sure your child brings the Fraction Squares back to school, since we will be using them frequently in class.  I appreciate your help with this assignment.

Tomorrow is the spelling test.  When we took our Buddy Check test today, several of the children did not know their words well.  Please make sure your child is practicing the spelling words daily.

Our own Rebecca Lyons is participating in the play “Peter Pan” at Edsel Ford High School beginning tonight.  This would be a great family outing for everyone!

Have a great evening!

Supplies Needed!

Just a quick note to remind everyone that supplies are needed for your child in the classroom.  If you haven’t already done so, please send your child with pencils, crayons and markers.  If they need a new spiral notebook or two, please send that in as well.  It is easy to forget, at this time of the year, that supplies have to be replenished.

Also, thank you to the parents who sent in a box of tissue!  If you have not already done so, please send in a box.  Allergy season is starting, and we go through them quickly.

Also, have your child practice their multiplication facts.  We are going to start timed tests on the 11’s and 12’s tomorrow.  The more they practice, the faster they get!  Ms. Distelrath’s Blog has lots of math games that they can practice as well.

Have a great evening!

Tomorrow is the last day to order poster boards!

Don’t forget to order your discounted poster board by tomorrow.  April 2nd is the due date for all orders!

Scholastic Book Orders were sent home last week.  If you would like to place an order for books, the order is due on April 4th.

Enjoy the springlike weather!  I hear it is going to get cold again!  Have a great Tuesday!!

Goodbye March!

We are really enjoying the nicer weather!  Please make sure that your child comes to school with a small jacket in this kind of weather!  If they wear a large winter coat, they are more likely to take it off during recess time, then forget to pick it up.  We don’t want those expensive winter coats to end up in the lost and found!!

We had a great time at the PBIS party today…we were watching the Tigers and eating popcorn and drinking lemonade…a great way to end the month of March.

Remind your child to practice their multiplication tables each night and make reading a part of their nightly routine.

Enjoy the sunshine!!!
