PAES

Good afternoon,

We are beginning our training portion of the PAES program. This week we are working on the soft skill of hygiene. Please continue working on soft skills such as following directions, completing work requests and compliant behavior at home. These skills are important on the job and we will be working on them in class as well.

We will be creating tissue paper pumpkins next Monday. Please send in a small pumpkin if possible with your child.

Thank you again for all of your support!

PAES

Good afternoon! I am happy to announce our work program as arrived! Students will begin doing hands on activities and learning the skills that employers most look for on the job. Please reinforce “soft skills” which are skills surrounding behavior in the workplace such as arriving on time, working as a team, following directions, staying on task, etc. These soft skills will be stressed throughout the activities.

On Monday the 7th students will be going to HYPE for swimming. They will take a bus from the MBCC arounf 10:30 and arrive back at school around 1:30 in time to take the bus home. Please provide swimming gear and a towel. HYPE does not allow cotton cover ups so if your child wants to wear a shirt over his bathing suit, please provide one made of lycra or polyester.

Thank you for your continued support. If you need anything my emails is chapmaj@dearbornschools.org and number is 313-827-3000 ex. 22903. I am able to talk on the phone before school between 6:45 and 7:00, during my plan from 8:10-9:00, lunch 10:20-10:40, or after school between 2:00-2:15. Or, you can email at any time. If I am not available you can leave a voice message and I will get back to you.

Thank you again for everything!

Happy first day of Autumn! Conferences are coming up, please look in your child’s bag for a conference sign up.

This week we are beginning our work on “soft skills” on the job. Some of these include cooperation, time management, responsibility, communication in positive ways, self-advocacy and so on. Students will start to understand these skills as those that employers look for on the job.

Thank you for your continued support!

September 18, 2019

Good morning. We are continuing our work on regulating and identifying emotions. At home please continue to help your child identify their feelings whether it is happy, sad, or anything else. Students are learning to use a 5-point scale to identify and learn to calm themselves down to a level 2 or a 1.

This Friday is a half day, so we will not be cooking, but will resume next Friday. Next Wednesday the 25th is a late start day. Students will begin school one hour later.

Thank you again for all of your support!

Week of September 9

Good afternoon! This week we are continuing our study of recognizing emotions, and learning how to calm ourselves. At home, please continue to help you child to understand his feelings by identifying how he feels and labeling the emotion. Please talk about ways to help an anxious or angry feeling.

The PAES program should be delivered within the first week of October. We will begin our PAES program toward the end of October. More information will come.

As we continue our cooking unit, donations are always appreciated. Thank you always for all of your support.

Week of September 2nd

I hope everyone had a great break. This week we are continuing to work on weather in science. We are finishing up the water cycle and moving into clouds and predicting storms.

We are starting a unit on emotions, identifying them in ourselves and others, as well as calming techniques. Please reinforce at home by discussing what your child is feeling when he is upset, or happy, or calm, to help them identify their feelings independently. Talk about what they feel like while having his emotions, to help him to be able to identify them independently. I have sent home an example of what we are working on as well as some calming options that we have available at school. Please help your child to use these as well.

We will begin cooking every Friday. We are in need of supplies such as paper products, staple items such as flour, sugar, cooking oil, mustard and ketchup. In addition, the PAES program will be deliverd in October, and students will get payed for each work week. I will set up a school store in my classroom where students can buy things. Items can range from foods, pencils, paper, drawing supplies, puzzles, etc. We do have one peanut allergy in the calss this year so please do not send anything with peanuts. If you are able to donate any of these items it would be appreciated.

Thank you for everything!
