Sorry, we need to follow the guidelines set out by the Governor. We will reschedule the parade once they lift the ban on the “lock in”. We miss you all and look forward to seeing everyone soon. Stay safe and read, read, read…

We Miss Our Students!
We want to spread some River Oaks love with our community Thursday, March 26th at noon (12pm)! Shout out to Mrs. Sandi for organizing this parade!
We are lucky to have our very own River Oaks staff leading our school community parade through the neighborhood. Families- we will post where we are heading as we parade through your neighborhood.
We WILL be mindful of social distancing and safety and therefore we will be remaining in our cars and will NOT be stopping. Look for us in our cars as we will be waving, honking, smiling, and maybe even throwing out some extra love!
We encourage you to wear your RIver Oaks pride shirts, or River Oaks colors. Feel free to wave from your windows or come out on your front porches.Want to get creative? Maybe even make a special poster to shout out some love to your special teachers and staff members.
We can’t wait to see all your smiling faces as we have missed you all dearly.
We will be leaving the schools parking lot around 12:15 and head down Garling and through that neighborhood then cross over to the neighborhood bwhine the school. Then we will head down Ann Arbor Trail to University Dr. Neighborhood. Then to Parkland and that surrounding neighborhood. Then we head down Ann Arbor Trail and head towards the Military Hills neighborhoods across towards English gardens then over to Hazelton, Virgil, Riverdale, Riverview, Appleton, Grayfield and Dale. . It will be about 40 minutes throughout the neighborhoods so please wait for us we promise not to miss anyone.
Remote Learning 3/23-3/27
Spelling
Practice the spelling pattern throughout the week as usual. Have a parent or sibling give you a spelling test at the end of the week.
Spelling words: neck, deck, check, rack, back, sick, pick, brick, stick, clock
Rule: The “K” rule says, –ck is used after one short vowel at the end of one syllable words to spell “k.” This means, one syllable words that contain a short vowel and the “k” sound at the end will have a –ck to make the “k” sound.
Reading
Read your book bag books and books on Raz Kids every day.
You should complete at least 2 quizzes on Raz Kids everyday (10 per week). I will be able to see your quiz scores each time you take a quiz, so read carefully and look back in the book to check your answers!
Math
We will begin with reviewing the lessons we have completed so far in Module 4 on Zearn before moving on. You should complete at least one lesson a day. This week Lessons 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 will be due on Friday.
Writing
You should spend about 30 minutes each day working on writing each day. Read a nonfiction book on Raz Kids from the Reading Room and write an informational writing piece about it. You should complete three different writing pieces (one each week) and bring them to school on April 13th to turn them in.
Challenge Assignments
If you finish all of the work above, you and your parent can decide if you should move on to work on the extra assignments.

Friday Updates-
I have heard back from almost every parent and most students are caught up on their work. Great job! If your child is a little bit behind on Zearn assignments, they can double up and do two a day until they catch up. I usually assign two per day at school when there will be a substitute, so they are used to completing two.
If your child has already completed M4L5 (Module 4 Lesson 5) please do not allow them to move more than one or two lessons ahead. The first grade team has designed the Zearn lessons as a review before we get back to school, it is best for our class that we stay on the same track for these lessons.
If your child is done with the Zearn lessons and you would like to extend their learning, have them work on IXL math. I have highlighted first grade math tasks that will help them review and prepare for our future lessons. If they complete them all, they can work on any material that IXL suggests.
The following work was assigned this week:
– Complete 5 lessons on Zearn
– Complete 10 quizzes on Raz Kids
– Write one informational writing piece
– Practice the spelling words
If your child is behind, there is no need to stress about it! We are all dealing with a lot right now and this is first grade. It is absolutely fine for your child to work toward completing their assignments in a way that works for your family. Please let me know if you have any questions or problems.

Below is an example of an Informational piece of writing about guinea pigs.
Each piece should have an introduction sentence where they notify the reader what the piece will be about. There should be at least 3 facts in the body of the piece. The last sentence should be a conclusion sentence. This wraps up the writing. Students should complete 1 writing piece per week.
