I forgot to post this on Friday, so here it is! Just a few reminders for the week….

Parent Teacher Conferences are March 12th from 2-5 p.m. The link to sign up was sent out through remind. Please sign up if you would like a conference with us.

Checking in: Please remember to check in at the front desk before coming to the room. If you are a Hype member and in the building, you still need to sign in so we have a record of people coming to the room. Also, we know it’s easy to stop by if you are already in the building, but making an appointment is still the best policy so we can dedicate that time to you and address your concerns. We cannot guarantee our availability without a prior appointment and we are unable to take “walk-in” appointments prior to 9:30 a.m.

Ramadan: Students who are fasting may choose to sit in another location while others are eating lunch. In addition, all food prep activities will pause for the month.

It’s been a busy week here at Hype! We’ve kept our normal work schedule, had our Valentine’s Day party, and the students helped Hype set up for a banquet last night! We are all ready for the weekend to relax and recharge!

Reminders for the week:

Signing In: If you are a Hype member and are in the building working out – you still need to sign in at the front desk before coming to our room. For security purposes, anyone coming to the room must sign in. Additionally, we ask that you please make an appointment with us before dropping by. It can be as simple as sending a text to make sure we are available, we try to be as accommodating as we can, but sometimes circumstances make it difficult to meet unexpectedly. If we know ahead of time that you’d like to talk with us, we can plan around that.

Cell Phones: We’ve had some recent calls about students sharing cell phone numbers with each other, or students receiving calls from other students that maybe their parents aren’t appreciative of. Our policy is that if a student brings a cell phone to school, they are are responsible for it and for being respectful of their families wishes regarding sharing numbers, etc. We love the idea that students are communicating with each other after hours and that is something we will continue to promote. However, we are not able to control what happens after hours, and we cannot spend class time tracking down student phone numbers, etc. If your son/daughter is not being responsible with their phone, please have them keep it at home.

Spring Conferences: Spring Conferences will be held on March 12 from 2-5 p.m. The link was sent through remind earlier this morning. We are using “Sign Up” instead of “Sign Up Genius” this time which seems to be much more user friendly. Please don’t forget to leave your students’ name in the comments.

Our party went off without a hitch yesterday! Thank you so much for helping us show how much we love our parapros! We had jets pizza, a salad bar and a delicious cake. It was a great time and we loved doing this for them! They are so kind to our students, have a tremendous amount of love and patience for them, and truly go above and beyond on a daily basis. We are truly blessed with a wonderful staff!

Hello! We finally made it though January! I even saw the sun when I went out for lunch today!

Students will be brining home information about the Valentines Day party in their blue folders today. We will be celebrating with a pizza party on February 13th. We are suggesting a donation of $5 to school by February 9th to help cover the cost of pizza. Additional details are in the letter that is coming home today. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

We began working on a personal hygiene unit yesterday and all students received deodorant to either take home or keep in their back pack. They were a donation from Mrs. Beydoun, one of our classroom paraprofessionals.

Just a few reminders for the week…….

Front Desk Sign In – Please remember to sign in at the front desk when visiting to Hype. This is important whether we know you are coming or not (example: you are here for an IEP). The front desk will let us know you are here and a staff member will show you to the room.

Cell Phone Policy – Just a reminder that students are allowed to have and use their cell phones/electronics during designated times only. They can use them during a break, lunch, or during leisure time. However, students should not be calling other students while in school. If a parent wishes to contact their student during the day they may, however, the student will not be able to answer unless it is a designated time. If there is an emergency, please contact us on our classroom phone at 313-701-7985 or call Howe School at 313-877-7000

Cold Days/Snow Days – What a surprise to have two cold days this week! Now that we are in the heart of winter – this is just a reminder to keep an eye on the news and district communications for information on school closures.

Just a few reminders for this week……

• As a reminder, every parent visit should begin with a check in at the front desk. Staff will notify classroom teachers and a staff member will accompany you to the classroom.

• New job site schedules will begin next week. If a student’s schedule has changed, they will be brining home a note, otherwise it remains the same as last semester. Please make note of when your son/daughter needs to bring a lunch to school. Students need lunch every day unless they are working at Modern Greek or Paradise Point.

It has been a fun filled week here at Hype! We will be having our lunch soon and playing some games this afternoon. Thank you to everyone who sent in gifts and donations for our class! We are so thankful for your kindness and genersosity.

When we return on Jan 8th, it will be a half day for our students. On the 9th, we will have a full day – even though the calendar says half day for secondary students. We always follow the Howe school schedule.

P.S. Each student will be coming home with a water bottle with their name on it. That was a gift from Ms. Khadija, who was our former parapro. She came to visit us today and brough the students a gift!

Good Morning! The last two weeks of school will be both busy and exciting! We are all looking forward to the much needed break! Students will be coming home with a note today, explaining everything that is going on over the next two weeks. We will have a spirit week the last week of school. Students can shop for anything they might need for spirit week during CBI this week and next.

Tuesday December 12 & Tuesday December 19 – Shop for Spirit Week at Dollar Tree and Five Below – students will need holiday socks, hats, headbands and shirts for spirit week

SPIRIT WEEK:

Monday 12/18 – Santa Sock Day – wear festive socks

Wednesday 12/20 – Holiday Hat Day – wear festive hats or headbands

Thursday 12/21 – Winter Olympics – students in both classes will enjoy group activities together*

Friday 12/22 – Classroom Fun – wear your Ugly Christimas Sweater or Red/Green Shirts*

*Events will take place after their scheduled work assignments

We had a great day celebrating Thanksgiving and enjoying pumpkin pie or apple pie after lunch! We hope you enjoy the break and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

In class, we have been talking about the importance of having friends outside of our families and how to make plans with someone. Some of our students took those discussions to heart and have been contacting each other outiside of school hours and making plans to meet at a restaurant or another place to hang out – like Zap Zone. We couldn’t be more proud! This is exactly what they need to be doing! We are excited to see if anyone gets together over the long weekend! If you would like help facilitating something like this for your son our daughter, please feel free to contact us and we can help get you in touch with other parents, etc.

Hello! I will be out tomorow so I wanted to send this out today – just a few updates for this week.

Breakfast Program – We have had a hard time getting our groceries delieved the last few weeks and have been unable to have Friday breakfast. We hope that will be up and running again after Thanksgiving

Sickness – It’s that time of year! We are starting to see more sniffles, sneezes and coughs in the classroom. Please remember to keep your student home if they are sick as it is easily passed around the room. Sometimes students “insist” on coming to school and we are so happy they want to be here, but they are often sitting here miserable not able to do the actual work expected. All students are marked excused when they are sick as long as there is a text or a call to the classroom phone.

Thanksgiving Break – It will be a short week next week! We will only be in school Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday is an early release day and we will end the day with a piece of Apple Pie or Pumpkin Pie to celebrate the upcoming holiday!
