Good Morning,

I tried to get this out on Friday but it was just one of those days! The students continue to do well adjusting to all the changes and just being back to school. Ms. Cote and I have both commented on how the splitting of the class has allowed some of our more reserved students to shine. There were so many big personalities on one classroom before, it has quieted down and given space for others to really step up. (We had a feeling this might happen!) We still miss our friends and being together, but this is one of the positives we have noticed and thought might happen!

Just a few items today:

Water Bottles – Students can and should bring a water bottle to class daily. I encourage a double walled, insulated bottle so that they can keep it on their desk. Anything plastic will sweat leaving water all over their table and eventually on their work.

Keurig – Beginning Friday, we will have a coffee break in the afternoon. Instead of charging, students who wish to participate will just need to bring their own keurig cup (coffee or hot chocolate) of their choice. Students can bring their own mug if they wish. (If you would like to send a box in for your student, we can label it with their name)

Field Trip – We will be going to our annual bowling field trip on November 1st. The cost will be $13 per student. The cost will cover 2 hours of bowling, 2 pieces of pizza, pop and bowling shoes. It is a great time. All four classes will be attending so this will be a great time to socialize with their friends!

Coming Soon! Students will be able to attend a few of the fitness classes here at Hype. I have spoken to Ali and one of the instructors here at Hype; both were very enthusiastic about having our students join classes. Once we work out our job and cbi schedules, I will let you know what will be available to them. Currently, we are looking at Silver Sneakers Chair Yoga, 50+ Strength Training, and 50+ Zumba Gold. Once we have everything worked out I will let you know and will send home a permission slip allowing students to attend. This will be an optional activity for students, but I would like everyone to try something if possible!

Friendly Reminder: There is only one of us in the room now. Please be patient when calling or messaging. I will respond to all calls and messages within 24 hours.

Upcoming Dates:

October 1 – No School – Professional Development Day

November 1 – Bowling Field Trip

Every Tuesday – Early Release – Dismissal at 1:50

August 27, 2024 – Mid-Week Check In

Hello! With all the changes that have taken place, we are off to a great start! The students have adjusted well and are jumping back into the routine rather quickly. We do miss our friends and staff members that have moved over to Michael Berry, but we are planning to see each other frequently throughout the year.

Today, your student will be brining home the “official” list of supplies, a photo permission slip, as well as a CBI and Job Site Permission Slip. Please sign and return the two permissions by Friday, September 6th. I realize most students have the basic supplies, but please check the list over. Some students need a fresh set of colored pencils at the least! This year, I am asking that all students bring in a copy (or we can make a copy here) of their Michigan ID. We will be using those when we practice filling out job applications and for other employment skills. Finally, if your student needs the occasional change of clothes, please send a spare set in a bag labeled with their name and we will keep it here for emergencies.

That’s all for now!

Hype Spa Day 2024

Mrs. King and her class prepared an amazing spa day for all of the students to enjoy! I wish everyone could have seen the smiles on their faces the way we did! Thank you Mrs. King for the great morning and a special thank you to Shaima and Khadija’s family for the henna!

We had a blast at the class picnic today! Thank you to everyone who donated food, supplies or money to help make it a success. It was our best one yet!

Location Change:

We wanted to let you know of a change in location for our classroom. We have so many incoming students, they will be opening a 4th classroom next year. Since there is not room for that classroom here at Hype, two classrooms will be located at Hype, and two classrooms will be located in another building, most likely Howe/MBCC. Ms. Cote and her students will be moving and I will be staying here at Hype with mine. We have already been talking about how we plan to get the whole “gang” back together with different activities next year. While it is a sad time, Ms. Cote and I have been working as a team for 10 years, it is also exciting as we will think about things in new ways and come up with new ideas. Ms. Cote will be making calls to families today and Thursday to notify you if your student is moving to the new location.

Rest of the week:

June 5th – Pamper/Spa day – wear sandals, flip flops if possible. Mrs. King is hosting a spa party for all of our classes. Students will get pedicures and manicures, facials, and other spa treatments. We will have special activities for the men as well.

June 6th – Talent Show – come dressed as a star! Students can sign up to show off a special talent – come dressed the part!

June 7th – Last Day – half day dismissal!

Unless something comes up this week, this will probably be the last blog post of the year. It has been an honor working with your sons and daughters. They bring us so much joy on a daily basis! We hope you have a fun and safe summer! See you in the fall!

(PS First day of school next year is August 26th and it will be a half day)

Just a few reminders before we head into the Memorial Day Weekend!

Picking students up early – Just a friendly reminder, if we are unable to reply to your text in a reasonable amount of time, please walk in to the front desk and they will contact us to send the student down. We try to be quick to reply, but sometimes we are short staffed or involved with a lesson. Please do not text/call staff members on their personal phones.

May 28th – Ice Cream Sandwich/Sundae Bar – students will enjoy this treat after lunch on Tuesday. We will be having a little fun in class in lieu of going out to CBI on Tuesday.

May 30th – Field Day at EFHS. Please be sure to wear layers, hats, sunscreen and bring your water bottles. Lunch will be served, but students may wish to bring a snack for the afternoon.

May 31st – Last day of job sites

June 4th – Class picnic at Hines Park. Thank you so much for signing up and sending in donations to make this possible. Please send items in by Monday, June 3rd. Again – THANK YOU!!! We couldn’t do this without you! It’s one of our favorite events of the year! (Rain date: June 6)
