Hello! Just a quick update on a few activities we have coming up….

October 15th – Open House from 5-6:30 p.m. Come on in and say hi, see how your son/daughter is doing in class and ask any questions you may have!

October 19th – Weekend Activity! “The Adams Family” movie at Cinnemark Theater – Taylor. Specific details will be sent home on Friday, so watch for those blue folders to come home! We will be aiming for a 2 or 3 p.m movie time – but the theater hasn’t released times that far in advance yet. The students will pay in advance for the movie so that I can make sure we are sitting together. However, because of this, anyone who does not RSVP will not be able to added after the date. **Some students will require a chaperone if they would like to attend and that will be indicated on the information that comes home.

November 22nd – Zumba! Cost: $5 per student This is optional, students who do not wish to participate will have an alternate activity. ** Safety comes first and we will take that into consideration when allowing students to participate.

December 18th – Bowling and Pizza at Ford Lanes. Cost: $10 per person.** Includes two games of bowling, two slices of pizza and pop. Always a great time and one of our favorite activities of the year! ** Tentative pricing

Good Morning!

If you son/daughter is planning on going to the zoo, we need the money by tomorrow. ($8) If we do not receive the money, we will assume they are not going, and will be expected to stay home that day. Once we pay the zoo (tomorrow) we cannot add any other students. Please keep in mind that we will be walking for approximately 2-2.5 hours without a break. If you feel this is too much for your son/daughter, they are welcome to stay home and will be marked excused. We understand some may not be up for the challenge due to recent illnesses, injuries, etc. Please let us know so we can mark attendance accordingly. Students will need to bring their lunch, and we will be eating when we get back to the classroom.

Also, we will be collecting all Kroger, Meijer, and Target ads all year! We use them all year for shopping and nutrition activities. With almost 30 students, we run out quickly. Students will receive points every time they bring in an add and there will be random rewards! If you’re at one of the stores, you can grab a handful. We appreciate it so much!

Upcoming dates:

September 24 – Zoo Trip

September 25 – Late Start

October 11 – Half Day

October 16 – Late Start

October 19 – Weekend Activity – Details to be announced

ZUMBA is coming soon! We are working on dates right now! 🙂

Good Morning! Just a few reminders for today….

  1. Students should bring a lunch to school every day, unless there is a half day or otherwise specified.
  2. The cafe does not open until 2 p.m. If a student forgets their lunch or eats their lunch early (we have some sneaky ones!) there is nothing here for them to purchase.
  3. Students are welcome to bring a water bottle to school, but please do not send money for the vending machines. They only work half of the time, and it is very disruptive to the school day to have a student want to leave to purchase a drink, but also to track down someone to retrieve a student’s money when the machines don’t work.
  4. Money for the zoo trip has been coming in – thank you! The cost is $8 per student. We will be there approximately approximately 2.5 hours and plan on eating lunch when we return to Hype.

I know everyone is looking forward to getting out to our CBI and Job Site locations. They are working on our schedule as we speak and we should know something soon. Normally we plan for a late September, early October start. Once they start it will be very important to check your son/daughters planners daily.

Hello! We had another great week in the Transition program. The students are doing an excellent job. We’ve seen some healthy lunches and the students are really moving around the track! Most everyone has all of their supplies. A note went home last week if your son/daughter was missing anything. Please be sure to get those items in as soon as possible as we will be using them almost every day. Also, a big thank you, if we haven’t done it already, to those who have sent in extra kleenex and chlorox wipes, etc. We appreciate it so much!

Yesterday I sent home a flyer regarding the Science Spin curriculum we are going through. If you use our code (printed on the flyer) your student will be able to access the curriculum from home, where they can practice their reading skills and/or have the articles read to them, etc. Many parents have asked for an extended curriculum so that students can practice either their reading skills and/or to give them something to do at home. This is one way you can have them practice their skills at home.

Upcoming dates:

September 20 – 1/2 day. Dismissal at 11:00 a.m.

September 24 – Zoo Trip $8/person. Money can start coming in beginning Monday September 9th

September 25 – Late Start

Have a great weekend!

Good Morning! We are off to a great start here in the Transition Program at Hype. I just added all of our new families to the blog (which is why you’re receiving this) as well as Remind. Please be sure to confirm your subscriptions to each so that you will continue to get notifications from our classroom.

Tomorrow is the first full day of school. Please make sure students bring a lunch to school. It should be in an insulated bag with an ice pack to keep food cold and protect from spoilage. We do not have a refrigerator or microwave available for student use.

Please refer to our Facebook page or previous blog post, or handouts that were sent home and make sure students have their supplies. They will be using those items every day. Thank you to those of you who have already sent in kleenex and chlorox wipes – it is appreciated very much!

New this year:

Parents picking up students from school must pull up to the lobby doors at Hype, or meet them inside the lobby. For their safety, students will not be dismissed into the parking lot.

Every parent will be given a copy of their IEP once all signatures are obtained and copies are made. There will be a post it note on it that says “IEP – Save for your Records”. If for some reason you do not save it for your records, they will be available from the Special Education Office located at the Administrative Service Building. We can no longer print extra copies from our classroom.

If you are receiving this and have moved, or decided not to attend this program, please call Howe School and notify them of any changes. 31-827-7000 Thank you!

It won’t be long until we see your smiling faces again! We hope you are all enjoying the last few weeks of summer! I think there is still time for a few more adventures before school starts! However, don’t forget to pick up your school supplies! We will start using them right away. I will include a list at the bottom of this blog.

I also wanted to let everyone know that students who will be picked up from school (instead of taking a bus) will have to be picked up from the lobby, or the driver may pull up to the front doors for pick up. For the safety of the students, we will not be able to dismiss students into the parking lot anymore. Pick up time is 2:45. If you are not here at that time, the student(s) will be put on the bus to go home.

Aug 26 – First Day of School – 1/2 day

Aug 27 – Full Day of School. Don’t forget a lunch!

That’s it for now! Enjoy the rest of your summer!

June 14, 2019

Well….here we are on the last day of school!   It wont be long until the phone is turned off, computers are shut down and everyone is off to enjoy their summer!  It has been a great year full of growth.  Our new students flourished in their new setting and we look forward to welcoming more next year!  With the excitement of the summer break at our door, there is also some sadness as we say goodbye to some of our favorite people.

Ms. Cathy and Ms. June – Our parapro’s are some of the best in the district, they work hard, love the students and are a pleasure to work with.  We have shared many laughs and good times over the last few years.  A big thank you goes out to them for all of their help and support this year.   However, Ms. Cathy and Ms. June will be retiring to enjoy traveling, time with grand-kids, and all the good things retirement brings.   We wish them the best and thank them for loving our students, and us, throughout the years.  It won’t be the same without them.

Malak Zahr is 26!  She has been a bright spark in our room and will be greatly missed.   She always came to school with a smile, had a kind heart, and great attitude.   We wish her the best!

Yasmeen Maisari is moving!  We will so miss her enthusiasm and persistence!  She was always up for a challenge and loved contributing to our classroom discussions.   It won’t be the same without her!  We also want to thank her family for doing a lot of our fundraising for us.  We couldn’t do many of the things we’ve done without their support!

Nejwa Elghoul and Adullah Mawri – Project Search.  Two of our leaders in the class are ready to move on to bigger and better things.  They will be a part of the Project Search program at Beaumont Hospital.  We are so excited for this opportunity for them but will miss them tremendously.

One last thing….please remember Jamie Rammouni in your thoughts and prayers as she is in the hospital waiting for a heart transplant.  Jamie – we love and miss you and wish you the best!  We hope for a successful surgery and speedy recovery so that you will be back with us before you know it!

Have a great summer everyone!

Hello!

Today we had our pizza party!  I forgot to remind everyone, and to be honest, I forgot myself – so thank you to those of you who read the blog and remembered!  Students will be bringing their lunches home.

Next week is the last week of school.  (Can you believe it!?!?!?) Wednesday June 12 is our trip to Olive Garden where we will be celebrating those who are leaving us, including two of our parapros.  We are so thankful for the time that we have been able to spend with them.   We have been blessed with wonderful students and staff and they will be greatly missed.  Congratulations on your well deserved accomplishments!

  • Malak Zahr – Program Completion – Age 26
  • Nejwa Elghoul – Project Search
  • Abdullah Mawri – Project Search
  • Yasmeen Maisari – Moving – New School 🙁
  • Ms. Cathy – Retiring
  • Ms. June – Retiring

June 14th – Last Day – 1/2 day of school – 11:00 dismissal

May 23, 2019

Hello!

We had a great time bowling yesterday, check out our pictures on Facebook if you haven’t already!  One gentleman told us we had the nicest group he’s ever seen!   I admit, we are pretty lucky!   As we get ready to head in to the long weekend, just a few reminders….

May 28th is the District Field Day at Edsel Ford High School.   It will run from 9:30 – 12:30.   Food will be provided  – halal hot dogs, chips and a drink.   Because the weather has been so unpredictable, we are asking that students come prepared with a lunch that day just in case the event gets cancelled.  There will be no way to know in time to notify everyone to bring a lunch if the event is cancelled.    Right now the weather is calling for thunderstorms on Tuesday, but that can and will change about ten times between now and then.  If you son/daughter is fasting and does not want to participate in the field day, please keep them home for the day and they will be marked excused.  There will not be a group staying back at Hype, so if they attend they will be expected to participate.

  • June 3-5 No School
  • June 6 – we will have our pizza party!  No charge, this is from the man who gave our class money at Leos a few weeks ago!
  • June 12 – End of the Year Celebration at Olive Garden!  Menus will be coming home shortly!
  • June 14 – Last day of school!  Half Day   Dismissal at 11:00 a.m

Thank you for all of your support with the sheet fundraiser!  All of the orders have been placed and should be arriving after the holiday weekend.   I can’t wait to see all the new colors!

Have a great weekend!

Hello!

Just a few notes for today….

Yesterday while at Leo’s, a kind man gave our class money to pay for the student’s breakfasts.  We had enough left over to provide a pizza party for the students so that everyone can benefit from that man’s generosity.   He said he has been watching us for weeks and it was just something he wanted to do.  So to the stranger at Leo’s – THANK YOU!!!  We will set the date for the pizza party at a later date.  We will wait until Ramadan is over so that everyone can participate.

Our sheet sale is underway and we already have a few orders!  Thank you!  This fundraiser provides many opportunities for our students.   There is no pressure to purchase anything.  Thank you to those of you who share this fundraiser with your family and friends!!!

We have a lot of special activities in May.  Don’t forget to keep an eye on those due dates!  As a reminder:

  • Zumba May 10 – Money due by May 9 ($5)
  • Zee the Cook May 17 – Money due by May 15 ($15)
  • Bowling May 22 – Money due by May 20 ($10)

Evaluations – you will begin to see a series of “Self Evaluations” come home on different subjects.  Now that we are reaching the end of the year, the students will be evaluating themselves in different areas of the program.  A supervisor will also evaluate them and that will be indicated on the other side of the evaluation.  Sometimes the evaluations are quite similar, and sometimes our students see themselves quite differently than a supervisor does.  Overall, the students have done an excellent job this year.

Don’t forget:

May 15 – Late Start

May 24-27 – No School

May 28 – Field Day at EFHS

June 3-5 – No School

June 14th – Last Day of School – Half Day – 11:00 Dismissal
