September 23, 2013

Things are under way in the Transition Class at Howe School! We will be having our first bake sale this Friday, September 27th and have already started our Sheet Fundraiser. All profits go directly to the classroom so that we can provide more opportunities to our students. Thank you for supporting our class!

Today we went to Henry Ford Centennial Library for a tour and we students will begin going to the library on alternating Monday’s. Students may check out books, music, games and movies. (Movies must be G or PG only) Students will not be bringing these items home, because we have had a problem with returns in the past, but they will be available here in the classroom every day.

Topic of the Month: Personal Health Care
Students have been learning about personal health care, and we have been talking about things like:
Staying home when you are sick
Calling your boss
Going to the doctor’s office
Taking medicine
What/Where is a pharmacy?

This week, students began practicing putting “medicine” in a pill container. So if they come home and tell you they took medicine at school, I assure you they did not – they were only jelly beans! 🙂

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to the 2013-2014 school year! You should have received a small information packet on the first day of school, with information about different aspects of our classroom. Please take time to read that over and feel free to ask me if you have any questions.

We will be starting work at S.T.E.P.’s soon, as well as our Community Based Instruction trips. In addition, we have many new things planned this year, and I am excited to see them come to fruition.

As always, I am available if you have questions or concerns. Please call the office or drop me an email (campd@dearbornschools.org) and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

As a quick reminder, please be sure to check your son/daughter’s back pack for the red communication folder daily.  The folder will contain important important paperwork and notices.   You should have already received photo and field trip permission slips as well as forms for free and reduced lunch.  The folder should be returned to school every day.

Finally, students who do not take the bus should be in school by 7:50 a.m.  Students who are consistently late miss out on important instructional time, and are disruptive to the entire class.  Unless there is a medical reason for students to be late (doctor’s appointment, therapy, etc.), they are expected to be here by 7:50 a.m.   Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
