Just wanted to let everyone know that we will be able to go to Planet Fitness Friday morning.  All other CBI/work sites will begin next week, but this Friday, January 9, we will be able to go to Planet Fitness.  Please bring your work out clothes!

As a side note, we will be walking the track most days here at Hype.  Tennis shoes are required to be on the track.  Students who do not wear tennis shoes to school can bring a pair in their back pack.

Here is our CBI schedule for the remainder of the year.  Students can bring money with them to purchase something of interest, for the family, or a snack.  (Snacks are at Target location only).  Some adjustments may be made for special circumstances.  Any student not at a work location will attend the Henry Ford Centennial Library trip on Monday afternoons.

Our bowling and pizza party is Friday!  Only about half of our students have paid.  Please send money by Thursday, December 18th.  Students who do not bring in money may stay home on Friday,  as we will not have staff in the building that day.

The cost for Pizza and Bowling next week will be $10, not $11 as previously mentioned.  I found some bus passes in our cabinet and we have enough for each student to have one, which will cover one way on the SMART bus.  Anyone one who has already paid, has been refunded their $1.

Corporal Whitted of the Dearborn Police Department was our guest speaker today.  He came to address the students regarding theft, cyber bullying and stalking.  He did a great job defining what those things looked like, how to avoid them, and what would happen if they took part in them.  As our students get ready to go out into the adult world, without the safety net of being in the classroom, they need to be prepared at how to handle such circumstances and understand what the consequences are.    So, if you hear that the police came to our classroom – they did!

Our bowling and pizza party will be next Friday.  The students voted on bowling a little longer this time – so we will bowl a full two games (vs. 1 hr. of bowling) and have pizza and pop afterwards.  The total cost will be $11 per student.  This will also cover $1 each way for the SMART bus.  Please start sending in money on Monday, December 15th.

As we finish out our time here at U of M, we are already looking forward to moving on.  Opportunities are opening up for our students that we are very excited about.  Henry Ford College is allowing our students to enroll in their classes (on an audit basis) and S.T.E.P. is now offering classes such as Employment Readiness, Art, Retail and Janitorial.  Students will be selected based on interest, behavior and readiness.  I can’t express enough how excited we are for these opportunities.  This is only the start of many good things to come.

There are only three short weeks left until the December break.  The following activities are scheduled:

Thursday, December 4 – Tour at Hype Recreation, 12 p.m.  23302 W. Warren Ave  Dearborn Hts., 48127

Friday, December 5 – Field Trip to Detroit Institute of Arts, depart 9 a.m, return 2 p.m.  (Lunch provided)

Monday, December 15 – Next trip to Henry Ford Centennial (sorry, this week was cancelled due to conflict in schedule).  Any students wishing to obtain their own library card should bring their State ID with them.

Friday, December 19 – Last day of school!   Pizza and Bowling Party at Ford Lanes – Price to be determined.

Today was our first day going out to the library.  Some students were able to get their own library card because they had their MI State I.D. with them.  We will continue to go each Monday, and I am encouraging each student to obtain their own library card.  If your son/daughter doesn’t already have a library card, please make sure they have their MI ID card with them next Monday.  We will make sure materials are returned, as long as they remember to bring them by the due date.  (Students will be responsible for fines on overdue items.)  Any items brought home today should be returned to the school by Monday, December 1st.

A big thank you goes out to those who helped bake cookies, muffins, cupcakes, and brownies for our bake sale.  It was a big success and we look forward to doing it again next year!  Thank you also to those of you who dropped your sons and daughters off to support our event, and to those who stayed to help.  We couldn’t do this without you – THANK YOU!!!
