Girls Activity Announcement

We are looking forward to this weekend, however, we will not be able to get our nails done as planned.   The salon cannot accommodate our large group at the time we are able to be there.  They were very nice, and willing to open early for us, but that would interfere with Special Olympics, so to be fair to everyone, we will meet for lunch at the Red Olive at 1:00 pm.  Pick up time will be 2:30 p.m.  Sorry for any inconvenience, I know the girls will be disappointed.  Hopefully everyone will still join us for lunch and we will have a great time.  I will try to work on scheduling this activity in the future.  Please note, this will still be a Girls Only lunch!  Thank you for your understanding!

Happy Friday!

Next Thursday we will be going bowling and having pizza at Ford Lanes.  Please remember to send $12 to school by Wednesday February 10th.  Students who do not wish to bowl may stay home for the day.  There will not be anyone back in the classroom.

Please remember we do not have school February 12th or 15th

Have a great weekend!

Thank  you to everyone who sent in their RSVP for Family Day at Turtle Cove! Mark your calendars for June 16th – it’s official!!  We are so excited that most students are able to attend,  currently we have over 33 people in our group!   What a fun day that will be!  If you initially responded “no” but find that you are able to come, you are more than welcome to join us.  For those students who choose not to attend,  their last day of school will be June 15th, 2016.  We will send full details home at the beginning of June.

Have a great weekend!

Job Sites/CBI this week

Good Evening,

We found out late this afternoon that we will not have transportation to job sites or CBI for the remainder of the week due to the high school testing schedules.  Our regular schedule will pick back up on Monday, February 1, 2016.

Monday January 25, 2016

We had a great time at Zap Zone on Saturday!  Pictures are up on our Facebook page (Dearborn Transition Program) if you’d like to take a look.  Our next activity is a “girls only” activity, we will be having lunch and getting manicures!  We can’t wait!

Today we are sending home information about a Family Day at Turtle Cove Aquatic Center on June 16th.  We are very excited about this and we hope that everyone will be able to attend.  Please take a look and respond by Friday, January 29th whether you think you will be able to attend or not.  We do understand that this is far in advance and circumstances can change, we are just trying to get an idea right now.  If we can get 70% of students to attend, we will plan the activity.  A parent or responsible family member must attend the activity with the student, and siblings are also invited.  There should be something for everyone to do there and we anticipate a great time!  What a way to end the school year!  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Finally, students will be completing a journal page at the end of each day and bringing it home with them.  This allows them to think about and process their day, and communicates their day to you as well.  Look for it in their backpacks!

Upcoming Dates:

Friday January 29th – Half day.  Students will be dismissed at 11:00

February 10th – Late Start

February 11th – Bowling and Pizza $12   Students may bring in money beginning Monday,  February 1st

February 12-15 – Mid-Winter Break – No school

February 20th – “Girls Only” Weekend Activity #5

Zap Zone

Final information about Zap Zone went home yesterday.  I forgot to mention that students do not need to turn their money in to me.  Students should bring their money to the activity on Saturday.  We are looking forward to a great time!  If there is anyone who would still like to attend, please contact me for information.  Students still need to meet the requirements for attendance and behavior in the classroom. Please note:  Due to the flashing lights and lasers, this activity is not recommended for students with uncontrolled seizures.

Friday News

Not much to report this week.  Please remember the following:

No school Monday – MLK

Late start Wednesday 1/20

Weekend Activity #4 1/23 – Zap Zone – Finalized information and homework assignment will be sent home next week.

Have a great weekend!

Don’t Forget….

Tomorrow we will be going swimming at the new Hype Location.  Students will need to bring a bathing suit, towel, and a bagged lunch.  The chlorine is strong,  and some students seemed sensitive to it last time, swimming goggles may be something they wish to bring.  We will be leaving approximately 9:15 and returning around 2 p.m.   We had a great time last time and we are looking forward to another great time tomorrow!  Thank you to Mr. Borg, Adapted P.E. teacher at Howe, for thinking of us!

Other  January Dates to Remember:

Jan 18th – No School MLK Jr. Day

Jan 20th – Late Start

Jan 23rd – Weekend Activity – Zap Zone

Jan 29th – 1/2 Day – End of the semester.  School dismissed at 11:00 a.m.

That’s it for this week!  Hope everyone is staying warm!

Swimming

We have been offered an opportunity to go swimming again next Tuesday.  I can’t wait to tell the students, they will be so excited!  Please make sure your son/daughter brings the following to school on Tuesday, January 12, 2016:

  • Swim suit (students may wear at shirt/shorts over their suit if necessary)
  • Towel
  • Brush or comb
  • Deodorant
  • Bagged lunch – nothing that needs refrigeration

We will also be playing  Walleyball after lunch so students should dress in gym clothes that day.

Welcome Back!

We hope everyone had a good break, that you are well rested, and ready to begin the second half of the school year!

We will be ready to go to all of the work sites and CBI sites tomorrow.  If you are a Planet Fitness member, please remember to bring your gym clothes tomorrow and every M-W-F.   Animal Shelter workers should remember warm coats and old shoes/boots this week, as our weather finally feels like winter!

Also,  2016 planners are available from us for $2.  Every student is required to have one.  (If you purchased the academic year calendar at the start of the school year – thank you! – you are all set.)   The only students who need to purchase the 2016 calendars are those who did not bring one in at the start of the year and/or those who may have joined our class late.   Academic year calendars will be required from here on out at the beginning of each school year.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow morning!
