Good Morning Families,
As you know by now, our program will be closed until December 7th. We will return to in person learning on December 8th for most students. Others will be quarantining until December 13th. Beginning tomorrow, we will provide virtual instruction for the students. They will be assigned either an AM or PM group and will receive instruction for approximately 2 hours – which will include a few stretch/bathroom breaks. Due to the large number of students we need to service, requests cannot be made for a particular group. We need to keep the groups to a certain size or the wifi just won’t hold up.
A second blog post and a remind message will go out once materials are prepared and ready for pick up. You will pick up your students work packet from Howe School 22586 Ann Arbor Trail, Dearborn Heights 48127 The phone number for Howe is 313-827-7000. Students may access virtual learning using a home computer/laptop, chromebook, or ipad. If you are in need of a chromebook for your student, please text our classroom phone by noon today, and one will be available for you when you pick up your students work packet. The link for virtual learning is in the classroom info tab of the blog. All details and a schedule for virtual learning will be included in the work packet.
During this time, if your son/daughter tests positive for covid, please call or text the school phone to let us know. The nurses need that information and determine if we need to do more contact tracing, depending on the test date. Calling or texting the school phone is confidential, only me or Ms. Cote will see the messages. Please provide the students name, and the date the test was administered. The school phone number is: 313-701-7985
Returning to School:
When we return to school, every student, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to show proof of a negative covid test that was administered on December 7th, 2021. Earlier tests will not be accepted and the student will have to go home. You may go to any clinic you choose. Each of the Dearborn high schools are providing free testing sites, most pharmacies (CVS, Walgreens, etc) and Urgent Care centers provide testing as well. Hype is providing discounted rapid tests ($20) for students if they mention “Dearborn Transition Program”. Again, the test MUST be dated December 7th, 2021 and it is required for every student to return.
Please do not send your student to school if they are showing symptoms of COVID. Every family was sent home the COVID-19 screener, in all languages, on Monday. We know how inconvenient it is to have to miss work or change your schedule when a student is home sick. But please, out of courtesy and respect for all students and our staff, err on the side of caution and keep you student home until you know for sure (by a dr. visit or a negative test) that your student is not infected. Thank you to those of you who did that this week.
We hope those of you who are sick are feeling better in no time, and we look forward to seeing everyone in person again soon! We miss you already!
