It’s hard to believe our first week back has come and gone! The students have had a great week and picked up right where they left off! This week, a few of our boys started a new job at Xpress Poultry, and we will be back to our regularly scheduled jobs next week. Next week is a FULL week. Please check the blue folders coming home today. In them, you will find:

  1. Progress Reports
  2. Information regarding lunch at Bellacino’s for those working at Goodwill on Monday’s or Wednesday’s
  3. Information on a volunteer activity our class will be participating in next week. We will be going to Adult Ed on the Henry Ford Campus and helping them with a special project.
  4. Homework assignment (for those who may have been absent the day it was assigned)

In addition – we are modifying our Healthy Lunch and Fitness programs! We have new posters that will be going up soon so students can see their progress each week!

Fitness: Students will be racing to see who will be the first to reach 25 miles around the track! Believe it or not, I think there are a handful of our students who should complete this in a month! 10x around the track is equal to one mile!

Healthy Lunch: Students will now be competing to see who can get to 500 points! Students receive a point for healthy entrees (any food from home other than pizza or fast food), fruits, vegetables, water or zero calorie drinks, cheese, nuts, grains, etc. Students are not discouraged from bringing the “fun” foods – they just don’t get a point for them. Some students are earning 10+ points a lunch right now – they are highly motivated! Students who bring all healthy 1 point foods and no 0 point foods, receive a 2 point bonus!

Room temperature – it has been a little chilly in our room lately. Currently we are averaging between 64-67 degrees. We do have several heaters placed around the room to help students warm up. They are also fairly active throughout the day. The floor is cold – so please make sure students have warm footwear, socks, etc. Students are encouraged to dress in layers and they are welcome to keep an extra sweatshirt here in the classroom.
