A few parents have expressed sharing children’s emails or phone numbers with other families. If you are interested in this, I will be saving some time at the end of the meeting to share. Of course, the information must be shared by parents, only!!!

Super Busy Bees

Wow! Yesterday was a busy, get back to school day. Fifteen friends completed the first Readworks article and thirteen finished 1-2 lessons in Zearn. Way to go!!!! Let’s see if we can get everyone to complete the Honey Bees article, today. Keep up the great work. How are your acrostic poems coming?

It was brought to my attention that your children’s math homework books are for Modules 6-8, so please have your children complete one lesson per day in those, along with the matching Zearn lesson. I was thinking of their student journals that remain at school—those were Modules 7-8. Remember you can view any lesson on youtube or don’t hesitate to send me an email with any questions you may have.

Thank you, Britta for sharing your sweet Baby Animals poem. Definitely a spring poem!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you, Mrs. Knop for creating this week’s assignments on a calendar:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LcEfATCsZG_buCERQQUUvhRo1yW-qC0o-0YF6AHO09M/edit?ts=5e947a19

A request—if your child sends me work and doesn’t want it published on our blog, please state this when the work is turned in, otherwise I will assume that I have your child’s and your permission. Obviously I can’t post everyone’s work for every assignment, but I will certainly try to get a sampling of every student’s work for the remainder of our school year. Thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚

Here’s to a terrific Tuesday!

Love,

Mrs. Burke

Welcome Back!

Hello Parents!

I hope everyone was able to have some down time and are ready to continue with our online learning. ๐Ÿ™‚ Ready? Here we go!

Following the state’s guidelines for screen time (K-2), the limitation is no more than 1- 1 1/2 hours per day of screen time for school purposes. The following sites are the ones I will be monitoring:

Read Works

Epic

Zearn

Your children should be very familiar with the above sites. If for any reason they are having any problems logging on, please let me know. Refer to my March 13th, 14th and 17th blogs for class codes and or student password information.

I am adding a new site, Vocabulary/Spelling City to sites I’ll monitor.

Spelling City https://www.spellingcity.com/Log-yourself-in.html

Your child’s username will be their first name, last initial followed by 108. (ex: SarahB108) and their password is their bookbox number (1-25) There are two exceptions: DavidLe108 and JennaHa108.

Other sites that I recommend for enrichment are:

Reading: Raz Kids, Freckle and Storyline

Math: Freckle

Science: Mystery Science

Social Studies: Scholastic News and Time for Kids

If you have a library card I highly recommend you check out Dearborn Public Libraries for a number of wonderful sites. The children can โ€œborrowโ€ new books and they also have movies (including the latest ones that arenโ€™t streaming/on cable yet).

Go on a virtual field trips

  1. Virtual Field Trips  – Discovery Education
  2. https://www.waterford.org/resources/3-great-virtual-field-trips-for-early-learners
  3. Virtual Field Trips – Website that shows 30 different field trips
  4. Museum Field trips: https://hellogiggles.com/news/museums-with-virtual-tours/?utm_term=A36AA812-655E-11EA-97D8-7D87C28169F1&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_content=link&utm_campaign=hellogiggles_hellogiggles&fbclid=IwAR1LlAh9Y0Mjmk2evmEiDMJw4hj808RBsLBTWDO8ZnL1pickxcXBSOvLbh0

Thought I’d post these ideas, again:

Hive Plans for this week:

Spelling: (air and are patterns) Our words are: dare, share, care, scare, glare, chair, fair, pair, hair, stairs and bonus words are: upstairs, prepare, and compare. Our silly sentence is: Please be fair and share the hair ribbons with your friends.

To become familiar with Spelling City, please complete the 4 activities (Sound Counter, HangMouse, Word Unscramble and Word Search) that I assigned in Spelling City (Monday-Thursday). A spelling test on Friday on google docs or paper and pencil.

Reading: Readworks

Monday: https://www.readworks.org/article/Monarch-Butterflies

Tuesday:https://www.readworks.org/article/Honeybees/

Wednesday:https://www.readworks.org/article/Hummingbirds-

Thursday:https://www.readworks.org/article/What-Is-Pollination/

Friday: Free choice or https://www.readworks.org/article/Soap

Read 20 minutes using Epic, Raz Kids or one of your books at home.

Writing: Poetry April is Poetry Month, so let’s begin the month with an acrostic poem using a spring or a spring related word. Here is a quick example for the word ROBIN:

Red Breast
Outside critter
Beak
Insect eater
Nest builder

Neatly print one and illustrate. Share it with someone in your family. Your child can write this in their journal or begin a poetry book. They’ll be asked to write a few different types of poems later in the week.

Your children can reference the following book found in Epic:

https://www.getepic.com/app/read/12818

Math: Continue with Module 6–Lessons 19 and 20. Then it’s onto Module 7 Problem solving with Length, Money and Data–Lessons 1-3. Unfortunately, we don’t have that homework book, so your children will have to use Zearn solely for now.

Science: Mystery Science: Plant Adventures

Seed Dispersal: How did the tree travel halfway around the world?

https://mysteryscience.com/plants/mystery-1/seed-dispersal/84?r=7280613

Roots, water and minerals: Do plants need dirt?

https://mysteryscience.com/plants/mystery-2/roots-water-minerals/85?r=7280613

If your child already viewed these then they may make a choice of another mystery.

Social Studies: Scholastic News—-April edition

This Plant Stinks

https://sn2.scholastic.com/issues/2019-20/040120.html

Read, complete the back page and complete the 4 activities for this edition.

Here’s to a great easing back week of our remote learning!

Fondly,

Mrs. Burke
