First Week of May Calendar Additions :)

Hi There!

It’s May!!!!! This past weekend’s sunshine was glorious. I’m so glad the sunshine made it’s appearance, allowing us to get outside!!!!!!

Ok here we go into our first week of May:

I want to begin by complimenting all the kiddo diddos on their fabulous Lost Tooth Stories. I’ve never smiled sooooo much, since the beginning of our remote learning (one exception—when I see pictures of your children). The stories and the way they were written were so entertaining. I totally LOVED them!!!!! I did share them with Mr. Burke and he was so impressed! FANTASTIC work, boys and girls!!!!! You are all great authors!!!! 🙂

Tuesday begins our countdown of our last 26 days of second grade (truly not the way we would have ever dreamed it would be) and keeping with DuVall tradition, we are suggesting following our ABC countdown. It’s loaded with some entertaining ideas. Hope you’ll partake!!! 🙂 I’ll send that separately in another posting for easy reference.

Our Hive Plans:

Spelling: List on Calendar

Reading: 2 Readworks, At least one Raz Kids and quiz, Scholastic News and accompanying Reading Checkpoint and lastly Mice and Beans. I was able to locate this story from your children’s Treasure’s book (an anthology in their desks) to listen to and then read.

Writing: Please have you child listen to the story Best Part of Me and choose their Best Part and write a descriptive piece. The story gives a number of wonderful examples. I left last week’s videos attached to the calendar if they are needed for reference.

Math: This will be different for different students, it all depends on if you are choosing to pick up your child’s math books (Tuesday.) If you do, I am relying on you to decide if your child needs some extra work in a particular area. For those children who are on Module 7 Lesson 14 (as stated on our Calendar) then of course begin there in the math book. I would choose either the journal page and/or homework page, along with completing the exit ticket. Those that are ahead please complete the exit tickets—if review is needed then complete a few problem for that lesson. Continue with Zearn and work on Sprints. I will continue to type in the Application problem or something similar to it in the calendar, for those students that do not have their math books. Any questions, please ask!!!!!!!

Science: Concluding our plant unit—Please have your children watch the Miss Rumphius story—I think it’s a gem! 🙂

Social Studies: Our unit on Dearborn History will begin next week.

Tuesdays 11:00 and Thursdays—Mrs. Burke’s videos 🙂

Don’t forget to visit one of the special areas each day. All those blogs are listed at the bottom of our weekly calendar.

I believe that is it ….of course, until I remember something I forgot to include in this blog.

As always, please don’t hesitate to ask any questions and above all STAY SAFE. STAY WONDERFUL!!!!!! 🙂

Love,

Mrs. Burke

Math Book Distribution

Math Book/ Remote Learning Materials Distribution – Tuesday, May 5th

Robert AtteeClass News

DuVall Families,

In order to assist families with the continuation of remote learning, our staff has gathered student math books that we are planning on distributing on Tuesday, May 5th.  At this time, the math books along with some specific grade level supplies (and registration information for next year) will be distributed for each student.  Personal items that were not picked up on March 13th will not be distributed at this time.  Parents and students will not be allowed to enter the building as the learning resources will be brought to your vehicle by a staff member.  We are going to follow the same safety protocols that were used with the chromebook distribution.

Parents will drive up to the bus lane on Francis Street near the preschool door (door 4) on Tuesday, May 5th.  Please follow traffic rules and allow for distance between vehicles while the materials distribution is taking place. If your family has multiple siblings in our building, please indicate the names of the students so that you can make one trip.

Mrs. Burke’s Video Lesson…

Wow, I was very impressed with the first Readworks article for this week. I can tell your children took their time and many remembered to answer the questions in complete sentences. Keep up the great work.

On another note, unfortunately, we will not be able to have scheduled google hangouts or google meetings. I will be sending you video “lessons” through our blog. I will send my first one tomorrow by 11:00 and another one on Thursday at 1:00. For the remaining weeks of remote learning these videos will continue every Tuesday (11:00) and Thursday (1:00), but keep in mind that this could change, too. 🙂

“Looking” forward to reading to your children tomorrow. Hope it works—ANOTHER new site for me!!! Again, I’ll send the initial video at 11:00.

Have a relaxing evening!

Fondly,

Mrs Burke:)

Busy Bees’ Calendar 2 “Extras”

Hello Parents!

I wanted to explain a few tidbits (I know it will be more than a few) regarding this week’s calendar, so be ready for some reading material.

Reading: I have assigned 3 Readworks articles for this week. PLEASE be sure that your children are referring back to the article to help them answer the questions. Remember that all answers for essay questions need to be in complete sentences, otherwise your children will be asked to redo them. Thanks. On alternate days, RazKids reading is assigned. They can continue to make their own choices, please make sure your children are taking the quiz for the selections. I did include a challenge read (optional) on Tuesday, but it could be read any day. There is also an Epic video story. I am trying to give your children a little variety. Be sure they continue reading books you have at home. A good book in their hands is still very important to make strong literary connections.

Scholastic News: Look for the new issue listed near the bottom of the calendar.

Math: I would like you to explore another math link Knowledge on the Go.

https://gm.greatminds.org/en-us/knowledge-for-grade-2

You may find this more substantial for lessons. Unfortunately, it ends at Module 7 lesson 8, ( for right now), but it’s a great site. Instruction is for the actual math journal page(s) and the application problem. If you are feeling your child could use more practice beside their math homework page and Zearn, use this site. Your child can complete their work on paper. Also, when you login, there’s some fluency work- (Fluency Practice Library)—subtraction flashcards, coins in a can, etc…. Found by the Module 7 heading. I strongly encourage your children to work on these quick practice skills. Please take a look.

Application problems: I am requesting that you send me 2 of the application problems per week. Again, children need to follow the RDW format. Thanks!!!

Spelling: I would like to ask that your child only send me their spelling test. All other assignments need to completed, but they don’t have to be sent to me. I trust they are completing them and I can see accomplishments on Spelling City and of course their spelling tests. Thank you!!!!

Writing: Please utilize the tutorials for a personal narrative. They are all very short, to the point and have directions/terms we have used in class. I can’t wait to read their stories. The topic: How I Lost One of My Teeth, has always been one of my favorite assignments. Remind your children that we compiled a list of phrases and words for this writing during our school days. They may remember some of them if they think back. We never got to work on their storyboards and beyond, so we will pick up where we left off!!!! 🙂

Our “Specials” Teachers: Please be sure that your child will login to one of our “specials” teacher’s blogs per day. So appreciated!!!!

Thank you for your support and being so flexible. Daily changes are almost inevitable as we continue to navigate our remote learning process.

Let’s continue to be positive and work our way through these trying times. As always, fingers crossed for working links. 🙂

Here’s to a GREAT week!

Fondly,

Mrs. Burke
